OneSwitch for BlackBerry is the first high availability solution to provide automated failover and failback of one or more BlackBerry Enterprise Servers(BES) with the push of a single button without violating Research in Motion® (RIM) security policies. Trey, how is the faillover process complicated? Have an identical backup server pointing at the same SQL DB. Stop services on primary box and start services on secondary box...it's not rocket science and can be scripted.

Trey, how does the failover part work, specially in cluster scenario, without the user intervention?
I can be interested if it provides true clustering, load balance, and failover mechanism for high availability solutions

does the information for the product even mention load balancing? usually in an HA environment, there is no load balancing involved - there is a passive/active backup that will be standby until the primary config fails or is switched off. the information provided basically states that its a 'push of a button' switching to the secondary environment, so i would imagine this is not automated (although probably could be).

this looks like it simply replicates information to another site that is manually available in the event of a failure of the primary site - a very basic high availability solution.

Damn!!! it gave me a false hope. If a push of button requires, I would prefer to push the button on my hot swap box. Atleast that push is free ...

Snyder81 -

You are correct failover is not complicated. But, notification, downtime and failback can be complicated. The value that OneSwitch for Blackberry offers:

- Guaranteed ability of 1-click failover and failback in less the 15 min.
- A system that is fully compliant with RIM security policies and will not allow BES security violation lock-out.
- 24/7 remote monitoring, notification and support
- BlackBerry specific-failover logic will intelligently control service activation based on the specific-system failure.

It really boils down to how critic is BES down time is to you. If down time is highly critical to you then we have solution that provides seamless continuity to prevent critical down time.

Best

OneSwitch integrates with MCS on primary site and supports cluster scenario (A/P).

Failover and Failback can be executed by the end-user or by MessageOne at the request of the user. Added, MessageOne will monitor 24/7 and notified the user of a critic failure.

At the end of the day it all boils down to how critical up time is for you and how fast you can get back up. Our expertise is providing business the high quality service and software that prevents critic downtime.

How does it repliate the database, sql replication is not supported

http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...46147&vernum=4

...oh and if the SQL db isnt replicated then I don't see the point you can easily install a standby and point it to that. Once the server fails, start services on the fail-over --which can be one button if you write a script. Failing back is just as easy once you resolve the problem... well, i guess it might be 2 buttons, stop services and restart on the other...
