JiveTalk functional on VZW?

So for the past 2 weeks I've been dealing with the hell that is trying to get my full retail priced 8830's GPS activated so that googlemaps and such will play properly as a navigation tool. God these people make me wish Sprint had decent coverage in my location...anyway...

I have TONS of IM contacts, and I need a consolidated IM client. JiveTalk has all the right reviews and lots of end user advocates....I just want to make sure before I pony up that it plays nicely on VZW's network without incurring SMS charges or anything else goofy like that.

Thanks in advance for any help/experience you can provide!

Yes, JiveTalk will work with VZW.

GPS will not. (unless you purchase VZNavigator.)

Thanks! I appreciate the response.

I'm also kind of giving up on the GPS. The cell tower functionality seems to pass muster so far, I just hate the fact that they can get away with that type of stuff. That, and their annoying form letter responses with incorrect information are insulting to the intelligence =X

Thanks again, I think rather than doing the Gtalk + Miranda dance I'm just going to pay up for the JiveTalk application. Seems like it will be much easier to deal with, and I've had enough complication this week =)

you realize you have the wrong idea of how the GPS works. The GPS does not work off of tower triangulation. VZW navigator actually uses real time satelite postioning.

I'd guess he meant w/Google Maps.

Sorry for the confusion, what I meant is the part of google maps that tries to do the 'my current location' thing, which will use an on-board GPS if your cellphone carrier is not the antichrist.

The current 'you might be somewhere near this 5 mile radius' accuracy of the feature, when the GPS is disabled by said antichrist, is good enough for my current needs.

I'm considering buying a new car and getting an in-car navigation package instead of dealing with verizon's crap. Ironically enough I would rather spend 30k on a new car, than give VZW another 15$/month for a built in feature =p

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.1)

This VZW user agress with the other users with regard to JT.

You can try JT for 30 days free before making a decision on buying it.
