is there such a thing as a free jabber client i can deloy to handhelds?

Yeah. Google Talk does a great job. You could outsource your entire Jabber / XMPP infrastructure to Google Apps for your domain, and go from there.

i manage our internal jabber server and it doesnt cost me a thing. some of the field techs wanted to kno if this was something they could utilize in the field since this is something we just rolled out.
