Default Just did Trial of Mobile Admin - 07-20-2005, 01:01 PM

All I can say is, if your work an a IT Department or manage one, I would go give this a trial run. It's awesome, now If I am ever sick or gotta leave the office it will be nice knowing I can take care of an emergency from my BB.

I hadn't used it before because I thought it required BES, doesn't look like it anymore.

Well done Mobile Admin!

The pricing is $245 per server that you would like to administer with an unlimited number of users from an unlimited number of handhelds.

Complete pricing information can be found here:

It's actually quite reasonable considering the amount of control you get over a server remotely. If you, in any way, run a 24/7 org or datacenter, this kind of control is essential. A server is hung and you need it reset immediately. You don't have to find a phone, or a LAN line to plug a laptop in. You don't have to call anyone in to manually reset it. In about 30 secs you can hop on the server and restart it from your device. That's worth the possible productivity losses in downtime right there.

I agree that this is nice...I am going to start another thread explaining this further but for windows users all you need is the $29.99 Remote Desktop Mobile Software to connect to a workstation or server and then use the RDP client on the server or workstation to connect to other servers and workstations on your network...I have tried this out...works great and for only $29.99

Default Is the price fixed for servers? - 07-21-2005, 11:11 PM

So if you pay for 5 servers is that a fixed 5 servers or can you add any remove any 5 servers as long as you don't have more then 5 at a time? Reason is that we have up to 1000 users where we may have to log onto their PC. Tonight I had to add a PC log on and look for a file. I may or may not ever need to log onto that PC again.

Yes you can add and remove servers whenever you need to. One note is that you can only permanently remove servers using our Desktop server console (you cannot do it from the BlackBerry), otherwise you could buy 1 license and manage 10000 servers .

If you are managing 1000 desktop boxes and want to do it with only a few licenses, what we sometimes recommend is that you buy a couple of extra licenses that are unused, and in the event of an emergency you can add a server on the fly and connect to that machine. Then remove it when you are back in the office for future use.

Don't forget that the unlimited number of clients can be from any handheld platform (Clients are available for BlackBerry, Palm/Teeo, Nokia, and now PocketPC) to connect to the same servers, even if you get only 1 server, you have a license to use unlimited clients simultaneously on all handhelds.

It is often over 10 times faster to administer using Mobile Admin than using a "remote Desktop" or "VNC" type product over a wireless connection. What took 10 minutes in VNC or Remote Desktop, over a slow wireless connection, can easily take only 1 minute inside MobileAdmin. No more hair pulling!

Even on a fast WiFi connection, it is still significantly fewer clicks or taps, to, say, reboot a system, or view a specific database table, or execute a command, or kill a process, or fix a Domino server, or modify or kill somebody else's BlackBerry from your BlackBerry (remote BES admin), or manage a SQL server, or stop/start services, or manage Active Directory, or change settings on a Novell server, or view/FTP/edit files on the server, or hundreds other administrative tasks. All this through a friendly centrallized administration user interface that minimizes network bandwidth, and designed for tiny screens, that loads nearly instantly between screens (with no painful waiting for slow Remote Desktop updates).

It's cheaper than many similiar desktop software too that provides a centrallized administrative function - companies that pay the money for all the complicated administrative software, can afford a centrallized administrative front-end such as MobileAdmin that actually simplifies administration without needing to use separate programs.

In certain cases, MobileAdmin even launches and navigates faster on the handheld, than loading say a large administrative-type PC program directly on the server computer (A non-remote connection), due to the lightweight Mobile Admin client. Some people actually even prefer using MobileAdmin than directly sitting at the keyboard of the server computer, since MobileAdmin behaves like one huge easy menu system that can admin so many different brands of products Microsoft/Novell/BES/Lotus/etc in one single application.

Of course, if you're an individual (non-business) with one computer, it is overkill, but several small companies find this software very useful.

Thanks,
Mark Rejhon
