Best Twitter For Blackberry -
04-09-2008, 10:11 AM
I have been using twitterberry for awhile and wasn't thrilled with it. I didn't like how you couldn't reply to people and the updates are not so frequent.
After looking at berryreview I see there is a new app called tinytwitter
Has a scrolling bar on the bottom with latest twits and is easy to use and works fast...
check it out at berryreview
TinyTwitter - Twitter For Free From Your BlackBerry | BerryReview
I have already removed twitterberry.

The best Twitter client for _any_ platform, BlackBerries included, is your XMPP-based instant messenger program. This is because IM (and SMS, but we'll ignore that since you're on a real phone) is the only way to access the Twitter's 'track' feature. Their web interface, and their API interface, only supports 'follows'.
So fire up JiveTalk or RIM's Google Talk client and have at it.

I'm running the 4.5 beta on my 8310 and although tinytwitter worked fantastic on the 4.2 OS, I have been unable to get it to connect with 4.5.

Too bad IM has been down forever!! I suffer with TinyTwitter, but wish I had an instant notification like IM was. Hmmm, maybe I'll try the SMS hack on AIM.

I use SMS for twitter... but i also have the unlimited text plan. If you have that plan or one with enough text allowance already then it's basically like the IM twitter with all the same features.

At the risk of discussing politics, I'll just say that there are some interesting goings-on in DC today. Twitter has become an important part of that, and I'm interested in learning more. I have JiveTalk, and really like it. Does Twitter work with JiveTalk? How?

Go to Twitter's website. You have to configure it with them and then add a user to your GTalk client who you get the messages from (a bot).

Twitter does not currently work with IM, and hasn't for months, so there's no point in going there to set it up.

When I went to the Twitter site to check, I saw that Twitter only works via SMS. It would appear you're correct.

twibble for Blackberry -

twibble.de is a twitter client which also runs on Blackberrys. You can twitter photos via twitpic and use GPS to update your twitter location.

Yes I can vouch for this. I have been testing twibble for blackberry and it works pretty well as a twitter client. twibble :: a location aware twitter client for Mac OS, Windows, Mobile

I'm running tinytwitter on an 8800 using v4.5 and it is working fine. Sadly I've never managed to get Twitterberry to work - it installed fine but each time you try to tweet it responds with "Network Failure".

I assume you installed the latest beta 0.8? You can manually try different connection modes by using the "configure" menu option. You can choose "Auto-Detect", BES, BIBS, or TCP.

I couldn't get TinyTwitter to connect, but TwitterBerry works fine for me. There seems to have been a reply function added since Dietcoke's original post, and there's an option to set how often you receive updates. Thanks to everyone for app suggestions!

Not sure about that, it works for me on both. I have wifi set as preferred and I assume it uses that when I am in the house.
I'm spending more time on Brightkite these days though. Find it more useful with threaded discussion and easy photo posting etc.
Just wish there was a blackberry application for it. Have to use the mobile website at present.

GoogleTalk with Twitterspy -
01-15-2009, 07:48 PM
I use GoogleTalk with Twitterspy. Twitterspy isn't something you down load. Basically you get and send your IMs to/through Twitterspy. Basically Twitterspy shows up as one of your IM contacts in Google Talk. It isn't like having a full twitter client but you can send your tweets and subscribe to keywords (like the Twitter track that has been broken for ages). So you subscribe to your twitterusername and if people talk to/about you they will show up on your GoogleTalk. I don't mind this because when mobile the whole twitter stream isn't really necessary to me.
I have more details on how to set this up on my blog:
techlifeweb.com/2008/07/07/how-to-set-up-twitterspy-in-google-talk/
And if you are looking for a desktop client, get Tweetdeck.

I use SocialScope, it is amazing, and you can update twitter and facebook at the same time, and you can also reply, and status updates are from the actuall time, not 1min aog or 10 minutes ago

I was getting the tunnel error on my tinytwitter for a little while too. For me it turned out to be my apn settings. I have an unlocked storm on att and the settings were still set to verizon. So it definitely has something to do with you internet connection.

I went back to twitterberry this weekend from SocialScope and noticed a improvement in memory. I'm not leaking memory anymore near as much as I was on .234

Same here (except running .190 on my Bold). SocialScope is great, but it leaks memory like a champ. I'll go back once they iron out a lot of the issues.

If you want to follow Twitter Trends, you'll need to use TinyTweet. It also lets you update your location - doesnt look as nice but much more features.

I downloaded Tiny Twitter, however, I noticed a few things: The BB menu key does not bring up the menu. The space bar does. Sometimes, the app is unresponsive. Is anyone else experiencing these problems? I'm running version 2.1.9
BB Support rule #1: When in doubt, pull it out..... (the battery)

I also have an unlocked 8310. I wanted to try the TinyTwitter and also received the tunnel error. Anyone know how to fix this? I know someone mentioned the internet settings, but nothing specific about what I would need to change.
Any ideas?
