Smile FREE Flashcards/Trivia game application - 04-15-2008, 01:53 PM

Hey all -

We'd like to announce the release of "gWhiz" which contains both our graphing calculator and our new "gFlash+", flashcards / trivia game application. gFlash+ can be used to study for exams or just to test your trivia knowledge. You can even create and share flashcard "sets" with other BB users via our gWhiz catalog.

You can get gWhiz from our site, http://www.gwhizmobile.com or OTA at http://m.gwhizmobile.com. Please contact us at [email address] with any questions or concerns.

Our applications are absolutely free (We do accept donations of course )

Default OTA Questions - 04-16-2008, 08:07 AM

Hi Jaime -

OTA questions are available from the app. You can select OTA content from the public catalog or from your own Google spreadsheets. The public catalog is available from the application menu item: "Search gWhiz Catalog...." (you can see the current catalog from your browser at: FlashcardCatalog).

Thanks for checking it out. Please let us know what other features would be interesting or desirable

Mike

p.s. If anyone out there is interested in doing a free language translation we'd like to port it to other languages.

Your site indicates that you collect phone information and location info. May I ask what kind? You collect software info - is this the OS version or all of the other applications that may be installed on the phone? What is the point of a calculator collecting that type of information?

It does not work for me. Do you support 8700g for adding sets?

best,
Jaime

Default Phone information question - 04-16-2008, 11:01 AM

FF2,
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, we're collecting phone/OS information so we know what devices are successfully running the application. This helps us isolate issues and support users that are having trouble. We are only focused on our application and do not know anything about other applications on a device. Our Terms and Conditions do say we may collect GPS information. We're not actually doing that now but we've prototyped an application that uses GPS information to better support study groups. You can see a demonstration of this on our website on the “Demo” page titled “Android Demo”. You may also notice these T&Cs are very similar to those of other mobile application providers such as Google, Yahoo, and Apple. Hope this helps. Thanks again!

Default Adding sets for the 8700g - 04-16-2008, 11:14 AM

Jaime -

There may be an issue if you're connecting thru BES. If your BES is configured such that it does not allow pass-thru authentication for Google then you may be seeing that problem. Please let us know if that's the case and we'll start figuring out a workaround -

Thanks

Mike

I can't even find the menu. Is 8700g supported?

Default 8700g Support - 04-16-2008, 02:06 PM

Jaime -

Sorry for the trouble. There was a problem with the 8700 series (or any model that doesn't have a separate menu key). We have patched the app such that an ALT+trackwheel click will launch the menu (instead of just showing the flashcard set). You should be able to download the patched version (0.5.1) OTA for 4.2 OS at this time. 4.3 OS and desktop install will be updated shortly.

Thanks very much for your comments and patience.

Mike

Does gflash works with BIS-B connection? I can't search anything online.

Jaime

Default Bis-b - 04-17-2008, 08:31 AM

Jaime -

BIS-B should be fine but we have seen that getting the search contents and connecting to spreadsheets can be difficult in moderate to low signal quality data areas.

One alternative is that we do have is the ability to email flashcard sets (We will be adding this feature to the online catalog). If there are particular sets you'd like to get, email us and we'll send them to you that way. From your email client you should be able to save the attachment as a flashcard set.

Thanks

Mike

Default gWhiz 0.5.2 Update - 04-23-2008, 08:06 AM

Hi All -

We updated our free gWhiz learning suite yesterday with some new features and minor fixes. You can download the new version here.

Also, please note that our online FlashcardCatalog has new flashcard/trivia sets for "Presidential Quotes", "Algebra Questions", "Project Management Body of Knowledge" and more. You can email the sets directly from the catalog to your phone and install them from your email program.

Thanks for all the great feedback so far. Please let us know what we can do better!
