Is there any way to download Yahoo Messenger for Blackberry and some Google Apps like Gmail and Google Maps other than OTA?
Thanks!

I don't know of a way either, for those apps. Besides, you will need data to run those apps if were to get a download for them.
Many other third party apps do have PC download installers.

I have a generic data plan but no Blackberry data plan so my only solution for installing apps is Desktop Manager.

Will your generic Data Plan allow you to open and use the blackberry browser?

No browser with a generic data plan unless you have a wifi device. With a wifi device you have a wifi browser and can download apps on wifi.

correct. one of the limitations not using a BB Data Plan. And it's fine that you don't, there just will some limitations.
