Handmark: Free TV Guide For Blackberry
 

This looks interesting, especially since a lot of the tv guide type stuff has previously been either pay or gone by the wayside due to the costs of keeping the TV schedule updated.

Handmark is pushing out a free TV Guide (it appears to actually be based on the TV Guide data) app for both WM and Blackberry devices.

One of the cool things is you can set program reminders that are delivered via SMS.

Good program. I have been using it. I believe its the same app I saw listed on mobile.blackberry.com

It caught my eye because I think the last few tv schedule programs either went pay or were shut down. Was it Zap2It that bit the dust a year or so ago? (not sure on the name but it was something similar).

I do NOT have sms texting. They ask for your phone number to download the application. Is there anyway to get the application in another manner - from a computer or from the BB directly.

My main concern is that if I offer my phone number for texting, I will get more that I canNOT control and have to start paying for them

PS: I went to their site on the BB and was able to download it.

Next question - while I've selected FAVORITES, how do I limit the display to those items. I cannot seem to get to the "upper menu" where it shows "all channels" or "favorites" I'm sure it is obvious! Ah, found that, too. * and # get up to that menu choice.

What website did you use on your blackberry to get to download this app. I tried handmark.com and couldnt find the tv guide pgm. I rather not download OTA.

Nice app. Can't believe they finally did it. Agreed.

They ask for your phone number when setting it up, doesnt look like theres any way around it. Do they use your phone number for anything else besides texting you if thats what you wish them to do to notify of TV shows? They dont start texting you to buy things from there site do they? or sell your number to other advertisers.

I just removed this app because TV guide WILL NOT stop sending me text reminders of shows even though I dropped the reminders.

I even texted STOP in reply to one of them. They sent a message saying I have stopped the service then they keep right on sending the texts. If they keep coming I'm gonna have to call their number. Needless to say this one has been uninstalled.

app needs a little work, IMO.
