Default WorldWeather...BBWeather Alternative (subscription based) - 05-07-2008, 01:38 AM

I've been looking around today for the best replacement for BBWeather. BBWeather was a staple for most BlackBerry users but has been rendered useless because Weather.com has their own app they'd like to sell you for $35 per year. Their app is nice although I don't think it's worth $35 per year. WeatherBug is very nice but they want $39 per year.

I ran across WorldWeather on Handango and thought I'd give the 30 day free trial a spin. It's $9.98 per 6 months ($19.96 per year) so quite a bit cheaper than Weather.com or WeatherBug and gives the basic functions.

It can access weather for 45,000 cities worldwide with no need to lookup weather ID's or zipcodes. Simply start with country, then state/province and then lastly the city. I have yet to find a city that is not in there. It doesn't, however, have the changing icon on the homescreen like WeatherEye.

It gives Current Conditions as well as a 4 day forecast and has the ability to save multiple cities in "My Lists." Personally, I like this app and am considering purchasing it as I need something for travelling.

Awesome. Thanks for the info JC. I was also looking for a good alternative and this may be the one.

Downloaded the trial version and it works well. It definitely suits my needs of having multiple weather profiles. The interface is a little clunky but usable. I would hope if enough people generate interest in this product, they will consider an updated version with a better/ more navigable user interface.

Yeah, it doesn't recognize use of the menu key was what I noticed first off. However, I like the way you choose a city/state/country. No more ID's to look up online just to enter into BBWeather. I'd like to see a little color in the app. For now, it's all black/white.

Have you tried Weather Bug Direct? I'm not sure if they are the same thing but I've been using Weather Bug Direct for over 3 months now and it has been completely free and I really like it 2 home screen icons for temp and forecast, pushed weather alerts etc.

For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

The guy who is working on Remember The Milk for the BB has put out a little app that reads Yahoo weather. You may want to check it out as well.
