So... I'm not the only one with the 8320 that won't work.

Hi everyone.
I'm now busy with several projects on my work.
Most of them BB related so I really do a research on supporting most BB devices and connection configurations. Not of today but quite sure on this weekend I'll release an update of BBTran..

Please be patient, just need to spend some time with my wife this evening ;)

PS: Thanks for your feedback. I'm downloading 8320 T-Mobile simulator now to take some test on it first of all.

Hi All.
I've just released v1.1.
Those who had no problems with connection can upgrade program buy just running. It will prompt for update automatically.
Otherwise use OTA links in header or on BBTran - Universal translator software site.

In this update new screen added with Connection Settings.
You can open it using context menu.
There are BIS/TCP options.
for TCP connections there are also WiFi options: YES/NO/Preferred
Preferred will use wiFi if it is available.

+Some minor bug fixes.

Unfortunately, on my 8320, I still get the error that says "Sorry, service is temporarily unavailable ...."

I have tried all the transport options and turned WiFi off. Each time, I get the same error.

Try the following connection settings:
Transport: BIS/BES
WiFi: Off
Custom Options: ConnectionUID=GPMDSNA01

GPMDSNA01 should be th UID of the "IPPP for BIS" Service Book on your device.
if not then use your one
some times also works Custom Options: ConnectionType=mds-public

Ramsy,
the same issue has Jamie now. We are going to do more test and the I'll report for your device support.

Can you give more details on your plan.
do you have APN settings.
do you have data plan or you want to use BIS only?
what is your operator and bb device?

thanks for your feedback.

I have an unlimited data plan with T-Mobile. My BB is connected with a Blackberry Enterprise Server as well as with a Blackberry Desktop Redirector (I have two separate push e-mail accounts.) My APN settings are set to wap.voicestream.com.

Did you try to Specify Transport: TCP
Without any custom options.
try to hit Retry 2-3 times.
And also is there any delay before error message or it comes immediately?

I tried specifying TCP and BIS/BES as the transport type. Using either, there is a delay in getting the error. The delay is longer with TCP then with BIS/BES. Using either TCP or BIS/BES, I see the blue arrows in the upper right hand corner showing data traffic in and out of my Blackberry. With TCP, the error shows up in about 5 secs. With BIS/BES, the error shows up in about 2 seconds.

heya, did you try setting your ALT + LGLG into debug mode and looking for any log messages that might help clue in on what's wrong? (see my post previous page) It's strange that a number of us with, in theory, the same devices on T-Mobile are having two different sets of results...

I just had a random thought - what protocol and port is the app reaching out across, is it HTTP/80 or something different?

Quick question before you release - when I updated from 1.0 to 1.1, I had to reboot. I forgot to look real quick, but I *guessed* (just a guess) that was because when I clicked the Update link from BBTran, it didn't quit/exit before I started the new download. But since I didn't look... (I will this next time for 1.1.1)

Does the app exit itself after you click Update and it launches the browser? If not, it should to prevent a device reboot... in my opinion.

I close the BBTran on update. You can even close the browser and seen that BBTran is no more running. But for some reason reboot is required. I'll try ti figure out why.

Hi all.
Just released v1.2 with major bug fix.
also refined settings screen.
and now app by default hides but not closes to avoid checks on startup.
(but you can force exit in settings).
+ BIS-B support
+ MDS support
+ Connection Timeout setting

I got the same message on my 8310. When I had 1.1 it worked fine, but the upgrade to 1.2 shut down. Any suggestions?

Updated to 1.2, as soon as it started I got a Connection unavailable; the settings were set to 'Default'. Changing that option to 'TCP', exiting and coming back in allowed it to work. I would have expected 'Default' to work, as that setting works in all my other apps (for what it's worth).

Note that I have BIS/BIS-B on my device and data plan, but these are not visible options on the settings screen, nor do I see BES or MDS visible.

I am happy to report that v1.2 is now working on my 8320. Both MDS and TCP transport work for me now. However, when I started v1.2 for the first time, I got the same error - no connection. By switching between MDS and TCP and retrying, it eventually worked on the 2nd or 3rd retry. Now, both MDS and TCP work.

Thanks for your efforts. This program will come in handy.

This solved my problem as well. I had to change the Transport in settings to BIS (I did not try TCP to see if it worked as well).

Interesting - I have Default, TCP, and Custom - but no BIS. But I know for a fact I have BIS on my device, other apps are configured and using it just fine. Do you have the add-on BB data plan for $20, or the all-inclusive data/minutes/sms plan? (I have the latter)

Interesting. What's the info on your "IPP for BIBS" service book? (I think this is the one that controls BIS) This is mine on the 8320:

Name: IPP for BIBS
UID: GPMDSNA01
CID: IPP
User ID: -1
OSID: (blank)
Gateway IP: //206.51.26.192:19781;19780/
blackberry.net|GPAK
Description: IPP for BIBS

This is a T-Mobile combined plan: 1000 minutes, unlimited SMS and unlimited data (BIS & TCP). Mine actually says "BIBS" not "BIS" on it, that's not a typo...

I don't know what IPP for BIBS is. Where do I find that? I'm not on a BES.

On your device, go to Options -> Advanced -> Service Books. Look for one of them that starts with "IPP" (it might say IPP for BIS, not IPP for BIBS) then click on it to view the details.

I don't know what any of this mean so I don't mess with it.

I also see something that says IPPP for 5 click [IPPP]

Hi all.
Sorry for a small break.
Was planning a lot of improvements.
I already added AutoText support for input as well as spell checking ;)
Also thesaurus and pronunciation are in ToDo list next.
So far so good. Will publish soon.

Also you can read a post about BBTran on Blackberry Bold at BBTran - Universal translator software

Description: IPPP for BIBS

I don't know what any of this mean so I don't mess with it.

I also see something that says IPPP for 5 click [IPPP]
Well some details from the author ;)

Default is a connection without any tweaking, I do not know why it's not working. Looks like I'm going to replace it with "Autnomatic" which will detect best settings by default.

BIS is a connection through IPPP Service Books with name "IPPP for BIS" or "IPPP for 5 Click". If app finds one of these records then BIS option is available and can be used. Let me know if you have some other IPPP Service Books for internet access. I'll add them to detection scheme.

BIS (mds-public) is another option. it is nondocumented I have not much details but it also works for me.

MDS is a connection through IPPP Service Books with name "Desktop", "BlackBerry" or "Internet". Usually used in BES I believe. Also let me know if there some other alternatives on your devices.

TCP is a direct transport using APN Settings. WiFi is also here.

But even if there are mo right option for you now. You can use Custom mode. Just select specific Service Record from the list (the list contains all IPPP records from Service Book) and add ";deviceside=true" (without quotes) to custom options. Or any other tweaks if you need and have enough experience.

Regards,
Sergey .

This is why BBTran on my device does not show BIS as an option - my service book is specifically named "IPPP for BIBS". Yeah, it says "BIBS" not "BIS", I don't know why it's different - but it works, I have normal BIS access with my data plan/device. Thanks.

Ok, then you can try Custom option for now. And I'll add support of BIBS in next release too.

Nice feedback! Thanks

hmmmm.... Custom with "deviceside=true" doesn't seem to work (TCP works OK!); here is the connection debug log:

I noticed the double ";;" in there and tried it again without the ";" (and also without the whole deviceside=true string), same problem so that's not it. There's definitely network activity going on as we can see by the log, and visually I get the blue connection arrows and so forth; not sure what's wrong though. Any ideas?

I just downloaded it [BBTran 1.2 (4.2+) OTA], and I'm getting this same message.

I'm trying to use it on an 8830, Verizon, BIS.

Wirelessly posted

I am a newbie on blackberry, have a quick question. I chose BIS for the BBTran for connections. Does that means I am using the blackberry data plan instead of the gprs? Coz I have unlimited bb data but I don't have gprs data add on. So I'm afraid it will charge my gprs data. Thanks
