Default Found Viigo Project Tango OTA Link! - 05-14-2008, 05:55 PM

For all those who have read the reviews and got all excited about the upcoming Project Tango from Viigo, now you can download it without the wait.

I randomly changed part of the OTA download link from their website and it ended up being a different version. Low and behold it was the new Project Tango pre-release for those attending this week's WES conference.

Please keep in mind this is a beta!!! So not all functions are enabled yet, and for all I know there may be many bugs. So far I have yet to see any.

Enjoy!

The new version will allow for audio podcasts (not yet enabled), travel info (not yet available), Local Interests (not yet available) and Stocks & Finance (not yet available). So far the new weather function and sport scores seems to work fine.

It looks a little nicer than the current Viigo version and the transitions are nice too. It's really not a major upgrade over whatever you're using now other than the fact that you can try out the new interface. But it's nice to see a work in progress.

Egads, I'm not even willing to steal the download if audio podcasts aren't enabled yet.

I really like the "Add To Calendar" option in the sports section. I just wish I could view a sports schedule greater than 1 day.

Ah...you have to highlight a game first....I missed that small step.

The "add to calendar" function would make more sense if it were to look ahead a few days.

Any radar quick links ? I also wonder how will the podcasting work? You will subscribe some how to sites say crackberry and it will find the podcasts and download them to the device or memory card?

May the Blackberry be with you.

You'd be better off subscribing to a site like BBF.. (if only we had podcasts.)

The podcasting isn't enabled yet. and no, no radar.

Nice but I hate how Viigo wastes space on top with wide header!

Also, needs an option to mark ALL articles read within a category like Free news does.

Cheers

What device and what OS? This link is for 4.2 devices. I haven't tried it but if you have a 4.1 or older device, try changing the 4.2 in the link to 4.1 and see if that works.

Edit: I see you got it.

Are the sports scores anywhere close to real-time?
I know it was mentioned that there is no radar link... Does anyone know if that might be in the plans for the final release (since this is just beta)?
I hate how the current ver. of Viigo only shows portions af an article... Will this one display entire articles?

For those who have played around with it so far, is it worth downloading now, or would you suggest waiting on the final release?

Has anyone found problems with stability? crashes?
I usually avoid beta versions. When I was working for a software developer, it seemed that beta versions were really alphas. Rush to get out so you look good and let your customers do the testing for you. Since then, I tend to avoid betas, but if this one seems stable, I may take the plunge.

Hi everyone,

A few notes:

As others have mentioned, this is BETA software, and as such, this version may not operate as expected.

We cannot provide any dates as to when the visible services that are now 'disabled' will be 'enabled'. (Stocks, Audio, etc.)

I can say that the Weather service will have some 'improvements'.

Also, the 'wide header' at the top of the screen in Viigo is reserved for our advertising partners. Enter the Viigo Bulletins channel, for example, and you'll see what I mean.

And finally, thank you all for the positive feedback. We may not post often... but we do lurk and listen to the Viigo community.

Cheers,
Pete

I'm not sure if this was included in other versions of Viigo(I have been faithful to Freerange), but if you open certain feeds (ie. Engadget), it displays its logo in the banner when you open an article. Not all feeds do this though.

Nice addition!

--Side question for anyone or this would be a feature request: Are there any RSS readers, outside of the crappy google mobile web version, that can sync with Google Reader(read articles on handheld, show up as read online, and vice versa)?

Looks like the version does not sync with Google Reader. I hoped in was going to be in this build.

The current version DOES display entire articles. There are some instances where it will only show an excerpt or summary and then you need to click Menu>Full Article to see it, but that has NOTHING to do with Viigo. It's the admin of that particular blog who has chosen to have a "<more>" tag in his RSS feed that tells the RSS reader to show an excerpt and then have to click further to read the entire article.

And yes, it is worth downloading if you want the latest version. But overall there are no improvements over the current as of yet.
