Default Empower Users with 4.5+ - 05-30-2008, 07:56 PM

Ani has so fortunately made a version of Empower Email Viewer for us 4.5ers.

I noticed on 4.5.0.10, empower wouldn't show emails, 4.5.0.28, worked fine, and 4.5.0.37 it didn't even show up in the popup menu.

Just downloaded the version about 2 hours ago, working beautifully on my .37

As of now ONLY OTA download, Ani says there will be a PC-DM version uploaded saturday.

Navigate to Empower your BlackBerry with HTML Email Viewer and BES MailBox in your BB browser. If you on 4.5+, it should auto-detect, if not, click the download for the 4.5.

If your at the latest update, it will be the same version number, but work for the new OS.

Thanks ANI!!!

Thanks for the tip, just installed on 8100 with 4.5.0.37 and I now have Empower HTML operating effectively. I was bummed when I went from 4.5.0.18 to 4.5.0.37 to see that it wasn't working. go to Empower your BlackBerry with HTML Email Viewer and BES MailBox and follow the links from there. Make sure to select OS 4.5+ or something like then to download!!!

I was lucky enough to get HTML email working on our BES with 4.5 so not using Empower anymore but I think it's AWESOME that the developer has updated their software to work with this release!

that sucks that you'd have to upgrade, Ani should be able to make the standard edition compatible with 4.5.xx regardless...what about all the Beta testers who can't upgrade and were given a free license...we should at least get a discount for the upgrade, it's a great program and I don't wanna miss out on it, but I'm on 4.5.xx now and can't seem to get it to work...I'm not giving up though!

Thanks..that helped.. Ani did offer a 50% discount on the upgrade to PRO..thinking of upgrading. Waiting to see what the BIS 2.5 update will bring to the NA region before I spend more $$...

I just purchased Empower Pro for my BB 8320 and have not been able to get it to work properly. I have email customer support several times but have not received a response back.

Device: 8320
OS: 4.5.0.10
Empower Version: 3.0.68.7

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

alright well, i had no luck on 4.5.0.10 empower with the 4.2* BBOS version. 4.5.0.18 worked with the 4.2* BBOS version. After 36 (i think thats what it was) i had to upgrade to the 4.5* version of Empower. Try downloading that 4.5*BBOS version of Empower, if not then upgrade to at least .18 BBOS.

I don't think so. I like EMV a lot. There are a lot of little touches Ani has worked on that I really doubt RIM has put into their HTML email. I like having different color headings for my various email accounts. But I guess we won't really know until tomorrow!

It would be nice if Ani would let us Empower Pro users know what it offers now that BIS 2.5 upgrade has been launched and we can view HTML mails without Empower. I bought the Empower Pro a month ago :(

Remains to be seen if RIM's BIS update for HTML email viewing will also have
the following features that Empower's Pro version has:

> Add To Task from Email
> Add Appointment to Calendar from Email
> Image Caching
> Detects Inline replies & shows them in Color.
> Detects Signature blocks in incoming replies & shows them in Color.
> AutoUpdate notification etc.etc.

For the sake of a feature comparison between the BB HTML email viewer &
Empower Pro, I've temporarily uninstalled it for now.

Let's see how the BIS update goes.

Default 8310 4.5.0.44 + Empower + BIS HTML = no email menu - 06-29-2008, 02:37 PM

Anyone else have this problem?

After the BIS HTML upgrade, whenever I opened an email I was unable to get any menu options. The only workaround I could find was deleting Empower. Once I did that, all menu options returned (along with the new BB HTML interface).

My wife is running 4.5.0.42 on her 8310 with Empower and still has full menu options within the email. Guess, I could go back to 4.5.0.42 in order to get Empower back, but the memory leakage was killing me.

Update: Empower won't even show up on 4.5.0.46.

If I ever locate 4.5.0.48, I'll be a good soldier and try it out for the good of the many.

So what's your take on the comparision between BIS HTML and Empower Pro?

IF (big if) Empower was working in the newer releases of 4.5 there would be no comparison at all. HTML email is the only thing that both offer. Everything else as mentioned above is not a part of BIS 2.5 nor should it be.

There is even more in Empower than mentioned above such as fonts, backgrounds and header colors to differentiate emails when you have more than one. The ability to show full headers (to lists) and expand attachment lists. Again, really can't compare the two.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8320 Curve)

@Shawn BB: that's the reason why I gave up Empower Pro - I couldn't access the menus and I couldn't open email attachments. After removing Empower Pro, I could open attachments again. Too bad, as I liked Empower better than the BB HTML messages.

I'm sure he will have to fix it at some point. Otherwise it's useless.

I did a fresh OTA install of Empower after playing around a bit with BB HTML.
Noticed that though Empower version shows up as 3.0.68.7 under Applications,
in the About under Empower Options, actual version shows as: 3.0.70.7.

As of now, HTML viewing in Empower does not seem to work in any mode
except when "Toggle HTML/Text" is opted for.
Basically, it appears that BB HTML viewer is the only app. permitted to
view emails now. Thus even if Empower is set as the default email viewer,
BB HTML does not allow HTML viewing to function unless one switches the
mode to Text in Empower.

I can manage to view the 'header' content of an email in Empower by setting
'Header Pattern: None' under the "Header Display Options'.
But, even if I choose 'Body Pattern: None' under "Body Display Options" the
body of the email does not show unless Toggled as above.
Changed the "Quoted Text Color" & "Signature Color" both to black but still
no go.

It perhaps has something to do with 'Application Permissions' associated with
Empower's ability to take over as the default HTML viewer.

Rest of the features of Empower mentioned in my earlier post still show.

I'm sure Ani would come up with a work-around sometime soon.

I am going through the same thing... the body of my emails are empty, especially when they are sent from an account such as hotmail, and I can't open any attachments. The attachment will show up on top (word document, etc), along with the paper clip, but my menu buttons are useless, which results in attachments that do not open.

I am using OS 4.5 .51 (still a beta, BIS, on an 8830 on Verizon) and I downloaded the newest and correct version of Empower Pro (OTA), and still no luck. I have a paid registration which is doing me no good right now.

Empower Pro has it all over BBSmart, and is much prettier than BB's default HTML. I really do miss it!

ANI, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

There are also many posts in a beta thread on 4.5.0.52. I've also sent a note to Empower Support (who is always very helpful and usually very responsive). The latest version worked great for me w/4.5.0.37 but as soon as I upgraded to the latest (TIM) version, Empower died. I'm also very much looking fwd to the next version of Empower and agree that it's a huge improvement over 4.5's native HTML.

Thx to all for the great advice!

my Empower is doing weird things. Since upgraded to OS 4.5.0.52, I can no longer view emails unless I switch from HTML to "Text". Then it goes to the OS 4.5 html view. So I upgraded my Empower to the latest 3.0.72.7 and now all incoming emails show in the native OS 4.5 HTML view. My outgoing emails show in the native Empower formatted view.

anyone experiencing this??//

Yes... I was definitely experiencing this under 4.5.0.52. I upgraded to 4.5.0.55 today without any change to Empower and it was working right away. That's a really nice bonus (for the upgrade to .55) that I wasn't expecting. I was expecting to have to wait for a new version of Empower. Not so!!

Don't know if this is related to Empower Pro or not but I started noticing this problem today. First on 4.5.0.52 and now on 4.5.0.55. Im running the 4.5OS version of Empower HTML Mail Viewer Pro. I posted in another thread any help would be beneficial.

Quote:
Okay never had this problem before with 4.2OS. Never noticed it with my 4.5OS until earlier today. Heres what happens, I get a email with an attachment, I click the BB button to open the menu, nothing happens at all. I go to a email without an attachment and try it and it works fine (tried all non-attachment emails and it works fine). I test another email with an attachment and same thing I press the BB button and nothing happens.

So a couple of hours ago I wipe my BB clean. Reinstall the new 4.5.0.55OS and restore all apps and data. I check again and same problem.

BTW I have BB Attachment services installed (first thing I checked).

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

I notice the exact same thing... To open/save attachments, I have to disable Empower before opening the email.

Forget about my earlier comment that Empower Pro works with 4.5.0.55. Aside from having to open attachments with RIM built-in message viewer, it seems that sometimes Empower opens messages and sometimes it leaves it to RIM viewer (despite being set to always open w/Empower). I just checked and the latest version (OTA) for 4.5 is still 3.0.72.7.

Thx to all for the great advice!

Has anybody had issues with customer support at Empower lately? I have been waiting almost 2 weeks for registration keys for two of their products? I have sent several emails and also tried to reach Ani from this site. Anybody else struggling with customer service at Empower?

I removed Empower from my Blackberry, I think the Stock HTML email in OS 4.5 is better than what Empower offered.

I've removed Empower too. Just waiting to see if Empower upgrade their software to make it attractive enough again for us registered users to load it back on.

Also removed... I probably wouldn't have if they responded to my email a while back. Even sent it again a week or so ago. Still no response. Shortly after I downloaded 4.5 and Empower didn't work, they were quick updating a couple versions to make it work. Not even a statement that they're waiting for 4.5 to be released in North America or something stupid like that.

I can't even find Empower Pro on my device now that I've installed 4.5. It's no longer in the menu in messages. Still in the applications list, but can't find it to use it...

So far, I'm going to disagree. The only option I'm seeing on OS 4.5 html is to choose to automatically download images or not. Empower allowed me to change fonts, backgrounds, strip images automatically (and not have to view image placeholders), choose whether to cache prefetched images. Native 4.5 doesn't allow any of that. What do you find better about the 4.5 html abilities?

I definitely prefered Empower to native viewer. They had a couple of new versions for 4.5 and after (I believe) 4.5.0.52, Empower became incompatible (or perhaps it was RIM that blocked it out.. who knows). Instead of what became "normal".. another new version within a short time... nothing from the software developer. So, since it doesn't work, it's been some time and there's no word from the developer, I deleted it for now. I haven't given up on Empower, just on the current version.

Wirelessly posted

I just got an email from Ani at Empower. He said the new version works on 4.5, so I downloaded and it works great. Just doesn't seem like the native html viewer has many (or any) options.
