Smile Live Search - Update - 2.0.3048 - 06-05-2008, 10:57 AM

FYI...

LINK -- > wls.live.com (Untitled Page)

I upgraded to the latest version of Live Search last night, and I have to say I am enjoying the "Speak" input functions. I know this has been attempted in other apps, but this one seems to be very accurate getting what I say, and pulling related search results.

Being able to press a button to launch, press the "Phone App" button, say what I am looking for and having results that are nearby (8310; GPS) is very cool.

Also I had some weird issues in the past with Live Search being able to read my GPS info, and would receive the "Use Last Location" message almost 80% of the time. With this update, that issue has not happened in my first 30-40 searches.

Finally, there is now an integrated Weather option. Clicking the icon does an auto search for weather at the location specified on the App dashboard. Since I travel a fair amount, I do like the Weather conditions/forecast based on GPS.

This update is well worth it for anyone that uses listing search functions.

link to the update?

I am on version 2.0.3048.13898 (beta). It didn't update automatically when I just initialized the app.

Nevermind, I have the update, very nice!

It takes a bit to "think" but very very handy.

Sorry, JS, let me hunt for it. I got it via the auto update when I launched the app last night.

Nevermind, clearly JS is playing games this morning.

Yea I see it updates automatically as it initializes, (which is nice, it just doesn't give any confirmation to let you know it updated).

For those looking for the app, point your Mobile Browser to wls.live.com and select your version.

Same here...no "phone app" option in WLS for the current version, and the same version is what's on the WLS download page.

Must be talking about another app...

<edit> Huh? I'll look again...

If you are running the newest version, you should see a small ribbon across the bottom of the screen that reads "Hint: Press [Phone App Button] to speak." while the cursor is in the Search field.

This is wierd...I'm running 2.0.3048.13898 (checked the About screen in WLS) but have no "Speak" option on the menu and no ribbon while in teh Search field.

WHen I go to the WLS download page it says the exact same version - 2.0.3048.13898 will be downloaded.

Wassup?!

Did you guys "upgrade" even though the version listed on the download is the same as was on your BB already?

Give your BB a battery tug if you haven't already, then start Live Search and see if it gets an update. If it does not then you have the current version.

After that, if it were my device, I would remove the app on my BB, and reinstall from the link.

Thanks...I'm trying softreset now...if that doesn't help I'll do a battery pull...if that doesn't work I'll be kind to small children and animals, since it could be a karma thing...

Nope, soft reset didn't do it, on to battery pull next.

I am running this exact same version on my Sprint Curve and I don't have a "Voice" option? I also get the exact same version number if I try to download it via the web as well. Also, when I start it up and it looks for updates, it does not find any?

So, you have confused me when you say "voice" dial, what kind of BB are you using?

I don't have "Speak", "Voice" or whatever and I am using the latest version on a Sprint Curve. What kind of BB are you using and what is the version number? Mine says "Beta" on it and I even deleted it and downloaded again and still got beta displayed on it.

How hard would it have been to have a pop up saying that you now have the latest version or something?

Just finally tested the voice search feature, working well... even with my BT earpiece, found the businesses for which I asked.

Very nice, and better than average voice recognition.

The voice function is very sweet. I can see a real use for that... especially while on the road...

The latest is 2.0.3048.13898 (Beta)... and there's a prompt in the lower left corner of the screen HINT: Press [green send button] to speak.

Did a battery pull as well, and the Speak option has not shown up in the menu, or in any ribbon (thanks for the illustrative screen shots).

I'm too lazy to uninstall/reinstall right now, but I may try that later. Pretty weird how the feature shows up for some and not for others, even though we all have the same version.

OK...dinner plans changed, so decided to uninstall and reinstall WLS.

STILL no Speak command or ribbon!!

Anyone got any suggestions? This is bizarre...

Could it be some GMS thing? Fonejunkie and I both have it on AT&T.

Either that or it might be a GSM thang. Sorry, JS, I couldn't resist

It might be the problem... something different in the phone OS or the way voice dialing works in CDMA vs GSM...

AT&T here as well, and it works for me. I put it on my 8700 (also AT&T)and it has the Speak function as well.

Verizon here and no luck. I have tried the battery pull and everything else... The network technology conspiracy is picking up steam! This should help the AT&T vs. VZW chats we run into. "Just another dismantling by VZW"... LOL

No one has said that (yet)... the question is (1) DID VZW cripple something or (2) is there a real difference between GSM and CDMA?

One telling point might be to check with an Alltel or Sprint customer...

Any Alltel or Sprint customers out there getting (or not getting) the voice option with the new WLS?

WLS has no speak/voice functionality on CDMA Blackberry devices to date. This is documented in various places and has always been my experience as both a Sprint & Verizon user of various models.
