Default NEWS: Gmail Mobile Available for BlackBerry - 08-12-2005, 02:32 PM

Here is a new toy to play with over the weekend:

Gmail Mobile is an e-mail viewer application for Blackberry devices integrated with a popular original Gmail web client. Want to check your mail wirelessly while on the way? The simplest method to look through your mail box is using Gmail application for Blackberry RIM device.

Getting and reading newcomer letters;

Viewing correspondence contained in all folders of the original client;

Composing letters;

Using contacts from the address book;

Marking letters with stars and labels, which makes easier to find the certain letter;

Conversation option which allows reviewing all correspondence, related to the chosen letter and subject;

Changing the letter status to unread;

Quick Search option: entering the word or a part of the address will display all letters with definite criteria;

All standard operations with mail such as Reply, Forward, Mail creation etc.

Convenient and easy in operating application occupies only 78 Kb of free space on your device. It supports HTTP & HTTPS protocols. Don''t have Gmail account yet? Buy Gmail for Blackberry and get invitation to set up an account.

This seems to only be useful for accessing and managing your gmail account, but it doesn't seem to have any sort of notification when you receive new mail.

The page is http://www.handango.com/pdablast/Pla...uctId= 171365

Hmmmmm, $19.99 to check your mail on a free account? That does not work for me. Handango is over priced anyway.

I decided to install the trial and I am not able to get it to work. Getting "Bad DNS Address" errors. I will mess with it a little more and see what happens.

It should also be mentioned that Gmail now has a basic HTML view that allows us to access it via the BB browser. Gmail Mobile and its forebears were more useful before this feature became available a few months back.

Why would you want that if you can configure gmail account to forward everything to the BWC? There is a thread here that describes how to do that and then you simply use standard BlackBerry? Am I missing something?

If I ever need to check my Hotmail I just go to mobile.msn.com, I don't have it forward to my BlackBerry...most the time its junk and its not my primary email address... I want to check it, but not receive push notification...

Maybe that is a reason why you might like to use this GMail thing?

I agree that there's not much need to access Gmail via browser or 3d party apps. But because Gmail is often used as an archive, there may be occasions when you need to search for information that you sent or received a few months back, and the e-mail is no longer available on your BB. I've run into this situation a few times, and greatly appreciated the ability to search through my old e-mail on the road. I wouldn't pay $20 for this feature, but fortunately Gmail has obviated the need to do so with its Basic HTML interface.

Could be useful to some, but I see it as extra steps. My gmail account is already forwarded to my berry, and unless im mistaking, I dont see anything extra that can be done with this.

Aaron, Gmail Mobile is not only tool for getting mail, it supports native features of www GMail client like starring, labeling, searching, etc. It gives you an opportunity to see all headers of messages that you have in your account without loading full message to device. We tried to make its look closest possible to native GMAil service, and so it’s that easy to use!

Umm...if you already have a gmail account set up, why don't you just set it up to automatically push incoming e-mails to your blackberry through POP...it's a whole lot faster than accesing the browser then logging into gmail...only to find that you have no new mail...

I won't be satisfied until I have a computer that fits in my pocket...

I have been using gmails pop forwarding for a while, and its great!,
I would have to agree, much faster than opening up the browser.

Default Importing Gmail contacts into 8700g? - 04-17-2006, 10:02 AM

Hi all-

Is it possible to import all of my gmail contacts onto my 8700? I am on BIS, and have been uising gmail exclusively for contacts- would save me a lot of typing time to do this.

Cheers
