How recently was that posted? I've been checking every couple of days on the Map Help forum.

Tried Google but it only shows 2.2.0 on my 8330 Curve (CDMA).

Maybe I just got lucky, but all I did was when I saw the article at Crackberry, I just downloaded it OTA. I never uninstalled the previous version of Google maps or anything. Actually, I never even thought or knew about voice command until I hit the menu key. I tried it, and it worked.

Peace,

Kamau

  1. Install the latest version of Google Maps (http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v2.2....oss=1&eosr=on);
  2. Launch Google Maps 2.2.2; and
  3. Reset Google Maps (under the Help menu within the app).

I read about the "Reset Google Maps" on the Google Maps Mobile forum, and this is apparently the missing link!
Worked for me as well! Thanks!

Installed fine on my 8820 4.5.0.52. Voice search seems to almost work. Keeps saying "Google Maps Can't Connect"

Text search still works though so it must be an issue with their voice apps. Anyone else having problems?

I fired up Google Maps today while sitting in traffic with my car pool buddy and noticed that My Location dot accurate and not the standard "somewhere within the radius of this circle" accurate. Not only that, but as we moved, my location was being tracked.

Is that new to 2.2?

Nope. It's been doing that since version 1.something.

Guess that shows you how much I use Google Maps while I'm moving! :p

Those darn overpriced Canadian data plans really discourage the use of apps like these...

Default voice search on 8820 - 08-11-2008, 04:24 PM

I'm running 2.2.2 on OS 4.5.
Today I saw the voice search option for the first time. When I try to use it, it says "Google Maps Can't connect" or "Signal too weak"

However if I type the search in it works fine.

I don't have voice activated dialing installed anymore. Could this be the problem?

I doubt thats the problem as I have the same problem. I also removed VAD after having this problem and I still can do it.

This is just my opinion, but it must be the OS/BB model you folks are using that is the issue. I'm running BB OS 4.2.0.71 and google maps 2.2.2 with an original pearl, and voice search is working fine.

I have a TMO 8320 with 4.2 OS. I tried downloads from Google but no version of Google Maps worked for me...

I found a link on this page Google Maps Version 2.2.2 Released | BerryReview.com » and typed in that long url in BB Browser. After reseting Google Maps, I now have the voice. Again, I did not use the default Google Maps download link from m.google.com. I used the link I paste here.

I don't know where I can get version 2.2.3 but I think 2.2.2 is good enough for me.
