When I try to set the settings as "Bluetooth", there is no audio coming out of the bluetooth.
I have a Blackberry Curve 8330 4.3 with a Blueant z9i. It's fully sync, but I hear nothing.
Is there any way for me to listen to music via bluetooth?

I'm not familiar with Blueant z9i but make sure it complies with the A2DP standard to get music through.

I was able to play music using the BlueTooth Stereo Gateway with one of the earlier xPlayer betas without a problem, I haven't gotten/tried the official release yet.
For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

For your first problem (open file), I had issues when I first installed the app, xFile locked up the first time I tried to add a file to the playlist. I rebooted the device and the problem went away.
For your second problem, it could be your carrier. I can't stream anything very well from my carrier even with 4-5 bars of strength. Streaming over WiFi is pure bliss though, the app is great.

Is there a restriction on building my own station or is some kind of approval needed?
|
My first guess is that your station is streaming in some format that xPlayer does not support.
If your station url is of the form "http://radio.station.com:port#" , then it's likely either that your carrier has blocked the port or that the stream encoding is unsupported.

The 702 radio page says that it is streaming using wma 7.0 codecs, it's possible that xPlayer doesn't support that newest version.

Thanks for the advice, but I figured it out after reading some of the other posts.
I simply just deleted it from my phone, deleted it from my DM (since I realized that I had a previous version in it and installed it there instead of OTA). Then, after I was sure that every trace of it was gone, I downloaded OTA & installed it. Works like a charm now. I don't even get the radio re buffering now.
Now this is a app that I will pay for.
Again, thanks for your help & advice.

I've noticed that with v1.2.0 when playing mp3 files from the BB device, the time-elapsed counter doesn't work. It still shows 00:00 the whole time. Anybody else see the same?

I've not seem that problem on mine. The thing I notice the most on mine is how spotty the "internet" coverage AT&T has around the Philadelphia, PA Market when going mobile with XPlayer.

I keep getting either Connection Issues or Playback Error when I try to stream radio. I think the BlackBerry gods don't want me to listen to radio... ;)

does anyone know what the data connection type setting does? As in, is there a specific type that will be higher quality? I'm on BIS, so I'm assuming I can't use the BES setting, but how do I choose between "Direct TCP" and "Use BIS transport"

Connection type tells the software what part of the data path it should take to communicate to get the station. Best results are to use direct TCP and set the buffer to 200 atleast that is what I use. You are right don't want to use BES.
Go to menu>settings> Radio and you see them in there. Just highlight the connection type to make a change press the track ball and make the selection that way.

No, I'm on Rogers.
I was playing the mp3s from the media card, not the built-in memory, I should've specified that in my post.

The Application X-Player has attempted to open a connection a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy.
Do I need a data plan?

Usually that means your device has an IT policy put in place by your company if it's a company owned device. Not much you can do in that case. If you try to bypass the IT policy you risk losing your job.
If you bought the device used and it's not a company device, you can remove it.
Remove IT Policy - BlackBerryFAQ
Fwiw, I tried this program wasn't particularly impressed. The built in media player is good for me, and the internet radio on xplayer didn't work well for me.

Thanks for the advice, Daphne. I should have provided more detailed information. My 8320 was purchased new from a T-Mobile store, and is primarily for personal use (although I do access work e-mail through BIS). The only change I made to the BB since purchasing was upgrading the OS to 4.5.0.52.

If you haven't already, check Options > Security Options > Application Permissions > X-Player and change everything to Allowed.

Would the same files play with the counter working if they are saved on the device memory?
Have you converted your videos beforehand?
in the last case, maybe reinstallation would help?

ok , i think in order to sell this product hot you guys should, make a kind of cover flow like flipside has , make visualization for music , improve the look (graphic wise) like the volume button, it can look alot flashier. the radio works great but mabe a picture of the station ( the stations logo) and also make it not show all the songs on the player screen once i selected a folder. also u could sort it by categorys like , allsongs , artist , genre, instead of all the songs being mashed up on the screen. you can also make, play shuffle , and repeat cool looking buttons that u can select by useing the trackball, and mabe an equalizer or even just preset equalizer settings like the bb media player. in order for people to buy it hot. i think it should beat the blackberry media player in every way. but other than that it works great and does the job and the radio works perfectly for me. also i would like to request that you add radio stations such as power96 96.5 , y100 100.7 , and 99 jams 99.1 fm. alot of people here in florida listen to these and blackberrys sell alot here so it could attract alot of customers to xplayer.

Shape,
I downloaded v1.2.0 about a week ago now and I must say that the streaming radio works very well while on wifi...I haven't tried it much while not on wifi though so I can't say how it works with the cell networks. Here are some of the problems I have encountered...
1. The counter always reads 00:00 on mp3s and videos (mp4, avi, 3gp)
2. When I press the trackball to pause so I can ff or rew, the cursor isn't available to see where I am ff or rewinding to. I have to unpause, and pause again for it to show up.
3. The volume only goes up or down when within the program. If I leave the focus on xPlayer and put the bb in my holster where it auto key locks upon holstering, the volume won't work until I take it out and unlock the bb.
4. Similar issue as #3, but I have to pause the tracks (audio or video) when a phone call comes in so it doesn't keep playing.
As for #3 and #4, I wish the xplayer acted more like the native BB media player. Volume keys working all the time (holstered, focused on other programs, etc) and the music or video track auto pausing when the call comes in and auto resuming when the call ends. That would then warrant a purchase from me since I love everything else about the player.

It depends what data plan you have, what it covers.
Mobiola xPlayer does use the data for Internet radio, so just check with your carrier what are the limits (if they are) of your data plan.

Thank for your 2 cents, they were very valuable
We've fixed the 1st, 2nd and 4th issues. It was a RIM restriction to some APIs, but we've managed to find a workaround for it. The update will be soon available.
The third suggestion is technically not possible to make. sorry.

Will I lose my playlists if I upgrade? -

I'm still running xPlayer v 1.01. Last time I upgraded, I lost all my playlists. These are extremely tedious to set up.
Will I lose them again if I upgrade to v1.2.1?

Thanks, sorry, I should have made myself clear. I'm talking about playlists of mp3 files, not radio stations (which weren't available at all in the older versions).

We believe that the issue with unsaved playlists was fixed since beta, so they should be saving now.

Hi - I am using the xplayer beta (1.2.0) to play audio books (mp3s on the media card) and the most annoying issue i have with it (glad to hear the issue of showing 0.00 all the time is fixed in the new version) is it losing it's place in the track when paused or when the BB is shut down (I fly a lot so often have to turn off my BB).
Since many audio book tracks are 20 or 30 minutes, and i can't find a way to fast-forward using xplayer, it's not all that useful to me for audio books. Any ideas, or is this an area that can be addressed in a future update?
Also, I get an error message when the player is interrupted by incoming calls and I can't jusdt resume playing.

Hello smithcorp,
If you shut down your device, xPlayer "forgets" that you have previously paused the audio book, so that's why you start the file from the beginning. We'll take your report into consideration when updating the software.
You can forward and rewind your files using the trackball.
We have improved incoming calls receiving scheme in the latest version, so please update your xPlayer version and see how it works for you now.

Irene, I've got 1.2.1 that I'm trying out and I get an error trying to play any local media:
Player error: null
and with any of the streaming stations seem to get stuck and say "Preparing..."
