I am seeing a difference in the way the media is handled when adding files...the directory structure only goes one folder deep....example is adding music, from the music folder on my media card...the program shows all my folders within my music folder, but going into any of those folders will show ALL files within that folder even if they are in subfolders. The older version displayed the subfolders inside the first level folders...

Hi TinCanFury,
Please point the whole text of the error message, the "null" is only the beginning of it.
Also please note that the station should be entered as http://"station name or address":"port number"/"stream number". (without "" or spaces). You can check the station correct name and port number on their site.

wingrider, please go to Settings->Player-> and check "Include subfolders". This will help you to add files in the subfolders.

I have already tried that, it didn't help at all. I even tried changing the setting and then doing a battery pull and still no luck.
EDIT: disregard my stupidness above...it didn't work because I had merged all the folders into one folder on my media card. the program is working as it should. I must have forgotten that I did that. Sorry Shape.

I get the same error and there are no additional characters after the "null" text. The next line just says OK or Help. I can't play any media on my SD card and it all plays fine with the built-in Media Player. I have an 8130 on Verizon running 4.5.0.56.

how do you listen to files in xPlayer? All of my music is on my microSD card and when I go to open file/folder, it takes me to the home/user folder, and not the Blackberry folder.
EDIT: disregard that question as my phone was still plugged in my computer. however, is there a way to add an entire folder at once? Right now I'm having to choose which song I want by manually going to the folder.
EDIT v2: just ignore everything I say from now on? I think that could clear up some confusion.

I'd just like to confirm that I didn't lose my playlists after the upgrade. Thanks for that.
The ability to move to different spots in the tracks is very welcome, but it's a little hit and miss. If I want to play the same bit several times, I can only try to get the cursor in the same spot visually, because there's no numeric readout of the spot you're on.
Now that this feature is available, I'd like to request again the ability to define the start and end points of tracks in playlists. E.g. if I never want to hear the introduction of a song or the applause at the end, I could adjust the start/end properties of that item to start 7 seconds in and finish 15 seconds early.

If you NEVER want to hear the intro or applause, why bother with using markers in a playlist...why not just use Audacity (a free audio editor) and crop them out of the file forever...google it, its really easy to use.

I've been doing that, but I want to be able to do it on the Blackberry to cut out small parts of tracks, etc. It should be easy to implement.

I've just discovered the bookmark function, so that will do most of what I want already!
I was hoping to be able to enter a track several times in a playlist, and adjust them to play certain parts, e.g. chapters in a book. That would also require end points, and the ability to modify the track name.

After attempting to load xplayer on my 8703e the device locked up and I couldn't close program or turn phone off. I removed the battery and re-installed to boot up the phone only to receive data error message with a reset option that failed over and over .
I'm not sure if it was the download or removal of the battery or what to do next??
any advice would be appreciated !

Still don't know what I'm doing wrong to add radio stations. Tried this one from CBC Radio Jazz: atl2.fla.abacast.com:80/cbc-jazzhi-192 but no go. Tried this one from CKUA: media.ckua.com/broadcast?MSWMExt=.asf or 66.244.199.217:80/broadcast?MSWMExt=.asf and neither of those worked either. I'm saving to desktop and opening in notepad to retrieve the addresses. Both run fine in Windows Media Player. Anyone has any ideas? I believe this is the format that Shape are referring to. Thanks.

I can run my own internet radio just fine in xPlayer...but I'd love to listen to my local NPR while on the road. The station's stream is a .pls file in Icecast. Are there any plans to handle Icecast, or am I just doing it wrong? ;)
Be well

I've been using the bookmarks for a while now, very useful, but it does need to be able to store a bookmark for each file. I can understand that most people don't need end points, but I would find it extremely useful.
Also, the adjusting of bookmarks is a little tricky if you need precision. The option to display the time of the current bookmark and manually adjust it would be good.

How do you resume playback from a bookmark? I am trying to use xPlayer with long mp3 audio book tracks (60+ minutes). I select "add bookmark" during playback, but the next time I open the app and select the track, playback starts at the beginning.

When I play the track the normal way, it just starts at the bookmark. I have to remove it to be able to hear the start again.
So perhaps you're not setting the bookmark properly. I pause the track with the spacebar first, then use the menu to set the bookmark. I've never used a bookmark on anything longer than a few minutes, so perhaps there's a limit to the length it'll work on.
I've also discovered that not only can you set bookmarks for any number of tracks, but they also get saved when you save the playlist.
It might be useful to add the same track to a playlist several times, so that you can set bookmarks in various places in it. But unfortunately you can't rename them, so you just have to remember which is which.

Thanks pshute for the great guide. That is true, that's the way it works. And btw there is no time limit for the track to set a bookmark for.

Can phone calls be received while listening to xPlayer? I just downloaded and tested the software and I"m seriously thinking about purchasing it, as I can do things on my bb in the background. I just need to be able to take telephone calls at work while listening to the radio and I'm not sure if I can do that with xPlayer.

tythoward, the calls can be received while listening to xPlayer. When the incoming call is received, the player is paused, but still running in the background. When the call is finished you can resume listening to music with xPlayer.

I am in the trial period and trying to figure out exactly how to fast forward/rewind. I thought I was able to do it a couple of days ago when I first downloaded the app but may be confusing this with another app trial. Anyway, if I am understanding correctly, I can ff/rewind mp3s stored on my SD card using the trackball. I am able to move the counter but it just jumps back to the zero position and the file continues playing without any change in location. The counter readout stays at 0:00.and does not initially indicate file length nor show how much has been played or is left. Am I expecting features that don't yet exist or doing something wrong.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was already thinking about testing a different file and yes, I can ff/rewind it. So, as you imply, there may be something about the file I was listening to that needs to be investigated. Since I will be listening regularly to similar files, I will be happy to send you the file as soon as I get to my computer. Thanks again and I really like your product.

Thanks for the response. You're doing great work and the player is wonderful even without it.
I crave AAC+ in the hopes that my provider's network will be fast enough for me to stream my favourite radio at the AAC+ rate, which is half that of the MP3 rate.

I loaded 1.3 like less than a week ago and I had to one by one put my stations back in like a dozen or so. Tonight I saw that you guy must of added new stations to the list of and mine where deleted. Please bring back my stations or I will have a nervous breakdown having to put those back in there in less than a week.
I tried loading a .pls radio link and it didn't work for me.

oooh, neftv, we are very sorry that it happened (
We've tested and the stations always saved after the update.
Unfortunately we are not able to bring back the stations you had, but we will definitely implement a station automatic update option in the next version, so you will be able to update with keeping your stations without loading new ones.
The .pls link should look like
http://www.sky.fm/mp3/solopiano.pls

I'm going to try the pls links I had again I think the station was not on when I tried it.
Anyway, that update option may be ok but how about and import and export of user favorites that way once I have my stations in there I can export them to save them so that when software update occurs by any means I can then import my personal links. How is that for an idea? Or make a favorites genre in which your station updates either over the air or regular software update does not touch that directory except in an uninstall condition.

I sent the files a few days ago but didn't see your post to notify you. The problem continues and hopefully you'll figure out why. Thanks.

Can you please provide me your email or a specific keyword so I can find your email with the files? You can send a PM on the forum for security reasons if you wish.
Thanks in advance.

does xPlayer support some sort of rating system? It amazes only Apple understands how useful that can be.
