Default Alternative to epocrates? - 07-03-2008, 01:49 PM

After much speculation and experimentation, I've decided that epocrates is the cause of my enormous memory leak (did the bbf memory optimization and had 25mb free, over the next week, trickled down to 11 directly after a battery pull, even after removing some other programs!!) I can't live with this kind of memory leak, but I'd like to have a drug reference. Anybody have a recommendation for a replacement for epocrates? I'd like something free, but I don't know of any others. Everything else I've seen is $40-$80. ideas?

We have many physicians running Epocrates on their devices. It is a huge program (in BB Terms) at 9mb. If you use the thread to optimize memory and avoid using the Application Switcher (Root cause of memory leak). And ensure that you close applications properly you should be fine. I am sure there are alternatives but I have not explored.

Good Luck!

What other apps do you have running in a routine day?

From what I have learned, there are normally a few apps causing this issue, and one alone is not always the culprit.

To your question, I am not aware of another similar application. I would suggest, simply, that if you need Epocrates and it does the job, do a routine battery pull reboot about two days and you will fine. I do the same, no biggie.

I am running epocrates without problem. My problem is though that I can't update over the air. It takes forever and never completes. I am using an 8830. Does anyone know what the cause could be?

You won't like the price, but I use Pepid PEPID Medical Information Services for PDA, Pocket PC, Mobile Wireless & Online Use and a variety of software from Skyscape Skyscape: Medical and Nursing Software for your Palm or Pocket PC PDA or Smartphone
