I've tried several avenues, but I have no access to the original BES. I have no access to itpolicy or the .bin file. Nextel Tech Support says there's no way to clear the IT policy short of getting back on the original BES.
Nextel customer service agrees that I can't do what I want with my device, but they have NO way to let me out of the contract or get me a new or different working device other than me paying for it.
So for anyone wanting to go with a Blackberry, especially second hand, you better be extremely careful to find out if the device has ever been associated with a Blackberry Enterprise Server. I'm a techie myself, I understand the need for the data security. I don't understand why there isn't a total memory clear on these devices though. There shouldn't be any harm if the mechanism deletes the policies and the data together is there?
Also would warn people to be wary of Nextel customer service. I wished I'd had a voice recorder going when they acknowledged that I didn't have full control of my device, that certain features were turned off that one might want, and that all they were going to offer was to let me buy my way out of the contract.
If I sign another carrier's unilateral, forfeit all legal rights, you must use arbitration contracts again, then I guess I'm the stupid one....
