Default BBSmart Email Viewer...To Buy or Not To Buy - 07-14-2008, 04:50 PM

Because I've read in this forum that OS 4.5 will be supporting HTML email I don't know whether or not it's worth buying BBSmart, which I had planned to do. Certainly waiting for OS 4.5 to be released by Verizon for my BB is no big deal for me.

Advice from the experts sought.

I am far from an expert but...It only took me one day of me using html email for me to remove BBsmart for good. In my opinion, once you have html email enabled, you won't use BBsmart anymore.

I uninstalled my empower mail viewer in favor of HTML with OS 4.5, mainly to free up space.

If you don't mind waiting, then there's no point in buying BBSmart, IMO. I'm on a BES and don't know that it's a good idea for me to upgrade to VZWs 4.5 when it's released, so I did buy BBSmart.

I have to respectfully disagree with all here. Of course you don't "need" BBSmart or Empower, but there are other features provided by those programs that BB doesn't provide, and yes some are "pretty" features etc., but I like em

I know that there was a mini-preview of the BBSmart features planned for the next upgrade, and they looked good -- and more than just html viewing. I suspect that the developer is working on making the app. "special" for the new environment that he is facing and will come out with something good.

Having said that, however, I have been somewhat disappointed in the lack of feedback from the developer regarding the current status of development for BBSmart email viewer. I'll cut him some slack if only because his environment is changing so much.

4.5 OS's HTML e-mail leaves a lot to be desired.

BB Smart isn't quite "there" yet with 4.5

Empower is perfect. I will continue to use it with 4.5.

As I posted in a different thread back in Aug, I sent customer service an email asking when they plan on releasing an upgrade to make BBSmart Email Viewer compatible with OS4.5. Here was their response:

Hi Craig,

The main reason for the delay is because supporting OS 4.5 from BBSmart
Email Viewer is not a top priority in comparison to releasing updates
for our other products. OS 4.5 introduces native HTML and so one of the
main draws for this product is somewhat alleviated. It's definitely on
the list of things to do, but there are several other more pressing
updates for other products that are being addressed first.

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Empower is not completely compatable with OS4.5 either. As can be seen from many threads, though it works for some, it doesn't for many others, including me. And thier customer support indicated to me weeks ago that they working on a fix, but they've not followed up and haven't responded to my many emails.

4.2 with Empower. I love it! (I won't upgrade to 4.5... cannot give up my "surreal" theme)

Have BBSmart as well... I just prefer Empower.

I have an old? 7130g, sending emails is no problem, but having to wade through all that gubbings at the front of a received email is a bit of a pain, I've just dowloaded BBSmart HTML Email Viewer and to me it's the bees knees, you can see instantly what the email says.

Here's my question: how do I get to BBsmart to tweak options?

When you're in your messages list, (not with a message opened), click the menu button and you'll see BBSmart Options.

Wirelessly posted (Curve 8330 (red))

If you are looking for a way to replace the stuff that BB Smart does other than HTML email, check out FollowUp! By Link2.

As a former BBSmart user, I find the product excellent, but by no means does it compare to the native HTML email viewer in 4.5.

If your company does not have an upgraded BES, you could use the native HTML for BIS email and BB Smart for BES email. I used this for a while until my BES was upgraded and it worked great.

Good luck.

By the way, the FollowUp! app developer's website is:

honestly with os 4.5 there is no need for any 3rd party apps - its that good at rendering html emails finally!

Also, rexconnect is awesome for injecting anything to contacts, todo, memo, sms, emails, etc. Very good app!

yes and also empower doesnt play nice with os 4.5. Perhaps a fix and better integration is coming>>>?
