Default YouMail Opinions? (I know it's not really software) - 07-15-2008, 12:24 PM

So I got this from seeing people posting about it, and I LOVE it.

Firstly, I miss calls completely because of dead-zones with T-Mo and this allows me to see who I missed when my phone didn't even ring.

Secondly, you get caller ID, which is helpful if you got a missed call and don't want to call back if you don't know who it is.

Lastly, it's fairly simple to go online and even listen to your voicemail there (or on the computer).

Con: There have been delays in receiving texts, if you get a missed call you can check the voicemail (NO icon like regular voicemail...) and that sorta fixes the problem, but if you're relying on the texts, sometimes it's instant, sometimes it takes a good 10-20 min. or more.

Bottom Line: If you'd like to try out a beefed up voicemail and have unlimited texts, I strongly urge going on YouMail and at least trying it out.

I'm a YouMail fan too. But I recently ran into a roaming issue that prevents me from using it all the time. It doesn't happen on all roaming carriers but it happens on the roaming carrier where I live. Callers will not get my voicemail but a prompt for a 10 digit number with no way to leave a message anywhere. Kinda sad for me as I really like YouMail.

When working, I am a fan too. My hope is that the transcription text component will improve with future builds of the product.

knock on wood, I haven't had that issue JC, The only issue I've had so far is the 1 day last week where notifications where lagging a couple hours behind. I love using YouMail so between that and Antair Call Screener, I'm solid when it comes to calls that I don't want to take. It even eliminated a few people that I no longer want to talk to that didn't get the hint when I never called them back, using a YouMail recording that the number's been disconnected and Antair kicking them right into voice mail, they called twice but never left a message.

I have unlimited text messages with T-Mobile. Will I get charged for using YouMail?

No, except some users have noted that they have limited "Call forwarding conditional" on their account, and YouMail uses those minutes up.

Other then a lag last week for a day or so, I have had no issues. Loving Youmail so far. I will say that transciption could be better but that is really not a big of an issue for me.

Is there any text transcription now? I haven't even noticed that option...

<off-topic: What's really fun is putting you friend in there and saying something weird, like "I don't want to talk to you, leave a message" since only they will hear it>

Yea, the text transcription is in beta, and you can use it... it is so-so, but nice. I have had perfect transcripts come back, and some bad ones.

Love YouMail. Everyone has been surprised by their individual voicemail greetings. Transcription is okay - not the most accurate - but it gives you an idea of what is being said.

At first I was disappointed since I did not check the little button on my youmail config page to have it turn on my VM indicator. Once I got passed that it has been great. Been using for about a month.

Thanks,

Mark

for transcription and price, I've been using SimulScribe (PhoneTag)... 35 cents per message (there are bulk plans, too), and the transcription is excellent...

oh, and theres a visual-voicemail type BB app that allows you to access any message in your account

YouMail has added a visual voicemail web interface to their FREE service (YouMail SignIn) within the past month or so.

This has since been fixed as well as some other issues (e.g., local timezone, etc.)...

I just turned it on again and it's still VERY slow. It worked so good when I first enabled it, too. It's anywhere from 10-15 minutes.

I wonder if it's popularity has increased so much lately that it's slowing their system down.

i had a youmail voicemail that was transcribed today and didn't get to me until 5 hours after the message was left. might have to dump youmail if they keep lagging.

Well the phone has a backup of missed calls unless, like me, you are out of reception often.
I am hoping these things just work themselves out, it isn't always a long delay, it's just sporadic, so I figured I will stick with it for a little while and hope they upgrade to meet the demands.

Does anyone know how to get the voicemail transcription? In other words this means that if I get a voicemail I can have it in text format sent to my phone? Thanks! And how do I actually do this?

Log into YouMail on the web. Click on "My Account" on the upper right. Click on "Transcriptions - Beta!" on the left.

How long does the Voicemail indicator take to update? I had several vmails and I called into my vmail and deleted 5 of them and it has not updated in the 5-10 minutes since I deleted them. I wish it would update as soon as I hangup or delete a message.

So I logged back into the YouMail portal this morning to be sure that I had the VMail indicator turned on. Only one small problem, the option has been removed. Can someone confirm that it has been removed for them as well? If you still have it can you tell me where you are finding it in the YouMail portal?

Voicemail indicator for YouMail? I don't think that this option ever existed! Notification is either e-mail or SMS based -- the device voicemail indicator only works with the carriers' voicemail systems.

I turned it on last night from within the Portal. It was under My Alerts, and when clicked the screen moc-up showed the tape icon without text. Within minutes I had a popup on my phone that displayed "You have 13 new messages." and the banner ribbon indicator displayed 13.

It was most certainly there ...

Alright, so I have figured out my issue.

If you are using a BlackBerry Curve, you must select the correct phone for the appropriate carrier (no luck if you are on an unlocked and moved phone). Once your phone selection is correct (and the image shown matches your phone model), you should have an MWI option available in the My Alerts section. Just a note, as of right now there are three "Blackberry Curve" listings, the first one is for the 8310, the second, is the 8330, and the third is the 8320.

Additionally, you can send a text message to 52894 with the body being "notif sync" (without the quotes) to force an update of the VM Notifier & Count.

Hope this helps others that are using this service.
