Default Blackberry OTA downloader - 07-16-2008, 09:44 AM

This blackberry software application allows you to download OTA files instantly to your desktop. instead of having to enter the full URL of the download on your blackberry, you can just enter the OTA link into the software and click download, the program will now download all required files...
the biggest benefit might even be that you can create a backup of all OTA software / themes.... since we all know that sometimes the best downloads go offline first, and when theres nowhere on the net a backup available of your fancy theme, you're pooped....

download the blackberry OTA downloader here:blackberry software OTA downloader at blackberrysoftwarelist.net

Oh HELL no...

I can just see how this WILL be used....by people to download the OTA files and repost them on their LEACH website.

UN REAL...

And..go figure the person that posted this also runs the largest leach sites around!

Guess theme developers that wish to keep their themes protected on their own websites will need to find other ways now.

It looks like it might also work for programs. I just grabbed the OTA for Vlingo and it pulled it down. I don't know yet if I can get it loaded, but I would imagine that I just need to create an ALX file to go along with it.

I hate using OTA links in case I brick my Berry, and I now I might not have to worry. It did give me some trouble with some of the free games on the mobile.blackberry.com site so it might not work for everything. Than again, I don't even know if they'll load yet.

I hope this is not true and people will use it for the reason intended.

I am not a programmer, but I feel for you, I hope the BBForum community appreciates the programs they get (like this one!) that has hard work done by the developers and would not do that.

Glad to see this! As a connection for Mac & Linux users who have a bash shell handy, I wrote a script that does the same thing:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/linu...l-sd-card.html

Besides making backups of the OTA stuff, these tools are really handy for downloading large OTA using your PC then installing from the SD card (maybe you don't have a data plan, or pay $$$ per kb downloaded on the BB). All sorts of nifty uses.

I just verified that it does work for applications. I was able to successfully load Vlingo using the Desktop Manager after creating an ALX file that loads the COD files the OTA Loader grabbed.

yes, it also works for apps, since blackberry themes are also just "small applications". it currently only doesn't work yet from websites who are automatically verifying the blackberry you are downloading them from, but this should be solved in a future release...

I'm new to the BB, but I came across this program while searching for instructions on how to install OTA. It is a great program, made it easier for a newbie like me.
