Question Web Cam Viewing - 07-17-2008, 09:18 AM

I have a ATT Curve running 4.2.2.170 and would like to view my web cam that I have running at home. This is my set up: I have an IP Camera (Trendnet 100W) that has it's own web server, that is port forwarding to a DNS service so I can see it on any computer. Which works great on a computer. I can view either Java video or ActiveX, but when you pull up the website for the cam you only get a still shot, not a video, until you click on a link to decide what type of video. However, I cannot see anything when I pull up the website on my BB, using either Opera or the BB Browser. I can see the IP address of the camera, but I just get a blank screen. After looking on here it seems that web cams don't seem to work well on BB's unless you use a 3rd party software like Mobiscope (which won't work for my situation as a desktop computer is required). However, I can pull up a webcam for Red River NM webcam, for example, just fine on my BB browser. Why is that? Why can't I see mine? Am I missing something? I don't mind if I can't see video, just a current still shot is fine. And I don't want to mess with setting up an FTP server or emailing shots to my phone either. Any advice? Thanks!

Nate, you do need to use Mobiscope:
Mobiscope: Home/SOHO Surveillance :: BlackBerry :: Download

I don't know of another way, unless there is another product, OR perhaps upgrading your BB OS to v4.5 will do it... I know streaming video from such as Youtube works with the current OS release.

Nate, are you sure that you can't use the IP cam? I could have swore I read in the Mobi thread that you could.. not sure about the desktop though.. can't you have it hosted somewhere else?

someone, i read that Mobiscope is not a solution for him... but I still wanted to mention it for others who might read this thread, because it does work for most.

So, if he has it hosted somewhere, he is back to being able to use Mobi.

Thanks for the reply, I posted in the Mobiscope thread and the rep from them said it would not work for me as I do not have a desktop to run their app on. They mentioned that in the future they would have a solution for IP cams, but they do not at this time they do not. I have a laptop at home, but I don't want to have to leave it on all day to run the Mobiscope app. I'm curious as to why I can pull up a webcam from another site and not mine? I'll try updating my OS, perhaps that will work.

If you would like me to test it out with my 4.5 OS let me know via PM.

Mobiscope application for BlackBerry requires Desktop installation as a need.

I'm with ATT and according to their website this is the latest version

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.312 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.2.2.312
Consisting of:
* Applications: 4.2.2.170
* Software Platform: 2.5.0.30
* File name: 8310M_PBr4.2.2_rel312_PL2.5.0.30_A4.2.2.170_AT&T.e xe
* File size: 78.56MB

When I go to about on my BB I see 4.2.2.170, platform 2.5.0.30. Am I on the current version or is 4.2.2.312? Either way, I don't see a Version 4.5?
