Yesterday I was able to write a new AutoText in English letters,
to be replaced by a whole sentence in a different language.
Was so easy: For the "with" just hit the menu, switch to another language and write away.
I tested the results on Web mail and was so pleased with this great time saving tool.
Today it doesn't work! The "switch language" in AutoText stopped showing the languages.
Please someone with Curve 8320 tell me: Can you switch the languages in AutoText??

Okay, I tried it. I have a Curve and it works differently. I can't choose the language when setting up the autotext entry but I can choose whether to use the entry with just English or with All Locales. If I choose the language that I have the device set to, it only works with that setting. If I choose All Locales, it works regardless of if I have set either Spanish or English as the device language. So even if you can change languages to type in and set up the Autotext entry, you have to have an option that allows you to use the macro shortcut no matter which language is selected for your device. Unfortunately,I don't know how to help you with that or even if this will work on your device. I can only say I got it to work on the Curve.

An amazing tool, I think. Worked great while it did.
(A work around would be switching the language in MemoPad, writing the "with" sentence, copy, switch back to AutoText, paste.)

Many thanks for testing! So you do have it working on "All Locales" if I understand correctly.
That's what I had yesterday. "All locales" did & would work best for me, as I normally write in English.
I reinstalled some 4.5 backups and nothing helps.
Can anyone please suggest how to make it work again??

Hi,
Had the Curve 8320 for just few days and installing third party spoiled
the multi language support in the AutoText.
Deleting them didn't cure the problem.
Restoring my backups didn't not help.
What do you all do to keep track of the changes done by 3rd party programs?
How do you undo those changes if things go bad?
Even if I'll get out of this AutoText problem (ANYONE KNOWS HOW???)
I'll still be very hesitant about new 3rd party installation,
unless I have a way to go back to the previous state.

I don't understand how a third party application could mess up your AutoText.

Could you please be specific:
What third party application were you installing, how (OTA or via the Desktop Manager?), etc.

From the OP's other threads I gather he/she is grabbing at straws at this point. I doubt there is any hard evidence that the 3rd party app is the culprit.

I really hate losing it :(

pearl8120pearl--on your BB, go to Options > Status > Menu > Database Sizes.

Scroll down to AutoText, and what is the number next to that?

Can you go to Options > Autotext and view your previous entries, even those of the foreign language? None of them work anymore, or you just cannot create a new one?

When in "With" the "switch Input Language" doesn't show any languages.
The kyb shortcut Alt&Enter just causes a line feed.

At Options > Languages, what languages do you have available?

Tried uninstalling & reinstalling various Languages: None worked.
I'd like to note that in MemoPad I CAN switch to other Languages.
Furthermore, I can write a foreign text in MemoPad and paste it
as the "With" result for AutoText successfully, and it works just fine.

cool, inventiveness such as that is good... you found a workaround.

Thanks. Having to switch back & forth between AutoText and MemoPad
is much more time consuming though.
I wonder if there a way to check which file was possibly replaced on the phone by a third party program.
I also don't understand why restoring the backups didn't solve the problem (I know nothing about how the BlackBerry OS works).
Any comments/thoughts will be appreciated.
