Default REXconnect for BlackBerry - Better Data Integration Between BlackBerry Applications - 09-15-2008, 02:40 PM

We have posted the Beta release of REXconnect for BlackBerry.

REXconnect for BlackBerry improves the interconnectivity of standard BlackBerry software applications.

Here's what it does in a picture:

REXconnect offers:
  • The ability to quickly and easily send data from one BlackBerry software application to another.
  • Menu-based access to REXconnect in standard BlackBerry applications.
  • A point and click interface that minimizes keystrokes - never select, scroll, copy, navigate (navigate, navigate), and paste again.

For more information, please visit our website at:
REXwireless: BlackBerry Software Applications

A free trial is available. Download using your BlackBerry browser at rexwireless.com/download. We look forward to your feedback.

Thanks,

--the REXguys--

I'd be anxious to try this if the trial software was a timed FULLY functional release - especially when the released version isn't available for purchase.

That's kinda cool...I think I may be able to use something like this.

Installed...seems to work great. It would be nice if when you had some text selected, it allowed you to send just the selected text to the other app.

I am a big fan and heavy user of AMX, IDX and TDX, might as well give this one a try as well...

Very interesting piece of software. Initial blush looks very positive, and I'll need to see more. Integration of BB apps to TDX and IMX appears better than vice versa -- that is forthcoming, apparently.

Feedback:

1. The REXConnect option is missing if you are viewing the contents of an SMS message. (It is available from the SMS list screen).

2. Option to send SMS contents to an email message is missing.

3. Option to send URL (from browser) to Message is missing

Default REXconnect Feedback - 09-15-2008, 05:08 PM

Thanks for the feedback.

1. The option isn't missing, it cannot be placed with 4.2 API's (RIM did not provide the option until later). We will post a 4.5 version in a few days.

2. Didn't have this feature in the original design, since RIM provides "forward as email". Will take this under consideration for future release.

3. Didn't have this feature in the original design, since RIM has "Send Address" function. Will take this under consideration for future release.

Thanks,

I think as long as you're putting in the REX Wireless option, you should include all available options, even if they are already in the OS...I would get used to using the REXConnect option, so having them all there is very convenient!

Thanks for your quick reply - I am running OS 4.5, so look forward to your update.

Invalid data element is usually a communication setting issue, where the server between your BlackBerry and our servers is not communicating as expected.

Does the same error happen when you try all three TCP Choices? Have your tried rebooting the BlackBerry by removing the battery for a few seconds - this often helps with basic communication issues.

We suggest contacting our support center by using this web form:

Although it doesn't help you fkjr2, I'm not having any problems on a 8820 AT&T OS v4.5.

The Send to Memo option from an email only sends the email subject when the email contains only a URL. Verified this on three different emails w/three different URLs.

Can someone else verify on their BB? I'm on a Pearl 8130 on OS 4.5.0.66.

It's a beta. If you're not comfortable with that, then best to stay away. If you understand the risks and limitations involved with beta software, then give it a shot.

Default Blank Email text on 4.5 - 09-17-2008, 08:23 AM

This is a known issue with HTML Email on 4.5. Stand by for a post of the 4.5-capable release later today.

RexConnect looks very cool. Downloaded and up and running with no issues at all.

I've seen your element error before but I saw it simply browsing to a site. It cleared up a day later for me. Remember thinking at the time that it must be something weird in cache.

We were able to duplicate the element error on a device with a) BES and b) Firewall Enabled.

The resolution was to go to:
1) BlackBerry Options / Security / Firewall
2) Click on the menu, select "Reset Settings"
3) Then, go back to REXconnect and select Try REXconnect
4) Answer Allow / Always on the Firewall prompt
5) The element error seems to go away

Default Advice for REXconnect Installation (especially BlackBerry OS 4.3) - 09-22-2008, 12:00 PM

We have noticed that Security Permission defaults are a bit troublesome depending on the carrier your BlackBerry uses and the OS level installed.

For troublefree operation, please double-check that your application permissions for REXconnect are set to allow:

1) Go to BlackBerry Options / Security / Application Permissions
2) Find REXconnect on the list
3) Edit Permisisons
4) Mark all three sections at the top to Allow
5) Save and Exit

This seems to be a consistent problem with BlackBerry 4.3 OS devices on Verizon and Sprint, but is probably a good idea across other carriers as well.

Thanks,

--the REXguys--

What OS level is on your BlackBerry? REXconnect supports only 4.2.1 and higher.

I also suggest that you open a ticket at the REXwireless support site:
