I've recently become slightly obsessed with trying to figure out what I want to put on my pearl
From what I understand the pearl has less memory than the other phones so I dont want to overload it, how much can I put on it (safely?)

So far I've put weatherdirect and googlemaps
I want to / thinking about adding google reader, google search, yahoo go, jiveslide, ramble, and the list application from Maratick and maybeee BBtoday

About googlemaps- assuming I have this program, I can probably get rid of blackberry maps correct? And when I got the phone Verizon told me it would be 10 dollars a month to have the gps- was this just for their vz navigator (ie, will my gps work with googlemaps without paying verizon an extra 10 a month?)

Ive taken brickbreaker and password keeper off my phone already to save space, and I have a memory card for my pics.

also I've seen people talk about opera mini a lot and I am wondering exactly what the perks are? I tried to search it on the forum (I mostly found problems people were having, not a description) and I went to their website but I dont see how it differs from the blackberry browser, if I dont have wifi on my phone...

I have an 8120 which has as much memory as your pearl. The applications I use are in my signature and I still have about 20MB free on the device. If you press ALT + EACE you can determine how much free space you really have. If you haven't already use this thread to increase your memory do so:

Opera mini is ok and I did like it for awhile but I stopped using it myself and started using the default browser. Works for me.
