Default Paramedic Field Guide

Please Login to Remove!

Hey I'm an EMT currently in medic school and my instructor suggested the use of an electronic field guide as a learning tool. I've seen so many different blackberry guides out there that i don't know where to start. I would like to have one that does it all if thats even possible. I've seen a lot that are just drug guides and while that would be helpful i'm looking for the whole package if i'm spending the money. it would be cool to find one that also does cardiology.

Found these at Handango:

Pocket Reference for ALS Providers, 3rd Ed. (PktEMT3™) : BlackBerry Pearl : Handango

Rapid Paramedic (RapidPM™) : Details : Handango

You might check the other programs there in the medical section as well.

Pepid also has an EMS one which I think should work. I am trying the demo now

PEPID EMS plus NAEMSE Emergency Medical Service PDA Software

I think its sorta expensive since its a subscription

Also, a while back, one of our members posted a site for a free BlackBerry device with the purchase of medical software (promotion). It's been a long time, but I would keep my eyes open for something like that. And don't forget to keep in touch with other BBF users in other countries (Canada and UK especially). They sometimes get sales for medical professionals that we don't see in the states because of national healthcare system.

You may want to consider the Bold when it releases. I have heard complaints of these guides taking up so much RAM you run into issues. You would not have that issue with the Bold.

lol ya, only problem is as an EMT i'll be doing good to make enough to afford the curve. hell the only reason i got a pearl was because it was a hand-me-down.

Pepid is probably outside your budget. It is not a bad product, but it is expensive and it is an annual subscription which does expire, ending your access to the reference. Check out -Skyscape: EMS/Paramedic They carry the first title Daphne posted, and several other references. There are two advantages to Skyscape over other products. They use a small reader which installs to the device, and the titles are installed to an SD card, which saves you device memory. The titles also remain active after they expire, you are just no longer entitled to updates when they become available. I've personally used the ALS reference for a few years now (going back to my dreaded PALM days) and I still go through it every now and then.

Oh, one other advantage to Skyscape is that they usually bundle the PC desktop version of the software title you purchase for free. The ALS reference is one of the titles this applies to.

the normal non EMS pepid is probably also outside of your medical experience range. If you are going to be an EMT-b or even an EMT-p i would find something known for assissting EMS folks and not doctors like pepid. Don't get me wrong, I love their ER suite as it gives me everything i need but i can't see it being much help for an EMT and it's really more than an EMT would ever need to know (ie you won't be putting in chest tubes)

The paperbacks are a lot more forgiving when they fall out of your pocket on the top landing of a three story walk-up!
