Getting Third Party IM/WAP Software to work on Non-BES BB's on Cingular... You may have tried changing the APN Settings to wap.cingular with the username/password,WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM/CINGULAR1 to get these programs to work. This probably worked for you if you tried it but then you saw your next bill you saw that you got charged per use and the cost was outrageous (well for me at least heh). Ive spent hours on the phone with regular cingular support and they knew nothing, they just told me that it was already included in my plan and i didnt need anything else but shut me off from wap access. So finally I got fed up and called Cingular's blackberry support department and right away i got someone who set me up. What you need to get programs such as Ramble, Verichat, BBWeather, etc. to work on a Non-BES BB is a MediaNET Plan in addition to your Data Plan. They have several diffent MediaNET plans ranging from 5$ to 20$ i believe which you need to subscribe to if you want to use WAP software. I added the MediaNET unlimited plan which gives me unlimited wap access for 19.99$/month which isnt bad. If anyone here is having trouble with their wap software this is probably what you have to do. The number for Cingular's Blackberry Support dept is: 866-490-2666. I just want to save all you Cingular customers that are not on a BES from a big headache like the one i had haha. |
Wirelessly posted (My sword: BlackBerry7290/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) So what your saying is to get my 'berryvine rss' client to work, I need to subscribe to another plan..!!!?!!!!! Oh hell no....first is a phone plan...than a data plan....and now another bull @hit plan from the worst phone company out there..? Ok who has a hack for me, I'm ready to pay..? |
Cingular must be kidding I agree with the assessment of - "Oh, hell no.." This struck me as odd earlier when nick mentioned in another post that he was paying an additional $19/month for access to MediaNET (on top of the $45 BB Unlimited plan). That is crap. I just moved from Verizon to Cingular and figured out that BBweather - which worked perfectly on my Verizon 7250, will not work on my Cingular 7290. When BBweather tries to pulling the data, error reads "Error: Could not find a service book entry for IPPP" Verizon gave the access standard with the BB plan (which should cover all data). Cingular's plan is called "Blackberry Unlimited", NOT "Blackberry - Unlimited for BES users, limited for non-BES users"!! Any way to add the service book? Unless someone else knows something about how to get the Cingular phone reps to fix this, I have a feeling I will be on the phone arguing with them tomorrow... <sigh> -forrest |
Maybe you can just sign up for MediaNET to get the service book for IPPP sent to your BB, then unsubscribe from the service? Or, maybe Nick119 can forward us the service book that came over the air when he added IPPP ;-) -forrest |
I think to fix your problem forrest just go into BBWeather and then go into the BBWeather Options and make sure you check Disable MDS Proxy (unless your on a BES w/ MDS)... That should do it.. Let me know if that works for you |

If I do this, it should work, but it also sounds like I should expect to see the "per use" charges that you received on your statement.. Is that a fair assessment? I'll let you know if I find a way around it w/ Cingular. This is ridiculous. -forrest Quote:

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7290/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) Yeah that's a very fair assessment heh, but yeah definately let me know if you find a way around this! Thanks a lot.. |
Specifically covered here in great detail: http://www.blackberryforums.com/aftermarket-software/1903-any-advice-verichat-7290-cingulars-network.html (Well, no so great for anyone on Cingular who wants to use IP apps.) :x -forrest |

This needs to be figured out somehow, if anyone has any ideas? Because I'm at a standstill here. |
Wirelessly posted (My sword: BlackBerry7290/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) @nick119....thx, but I don't care how little it costs, its still bull... my bill has risen from $90. To over $200. Because of the berry.. I wish I would have know this before I got the berry... |
now some people tell me that this plan is not needed... hmmm who to believe... |
Mixed reviews here in the forums, but the latest is that data should be included in the BB Unlimited plan (but you might have to call in to get it working). http://www.blackberryforums.com/show...d=1#post101722 I'm going to try calling in about it tomorrow, we'll see.. |
