bbalert, webmessenger or alertmatrix or something else? -
10-29-2008, 11:01 PM
This might sound a like a weird question. Does bbalerts allow to specify a custom led per contact basis? As well as depending whether the msg comes in as a pin, sms, mms, or email?
Does any application allow this type of customization or combination of programs? I know web messenger seems to utilize this but does not seem to allow for any control beyond txt msg/email and not including mms/pins ...etc
Similar to how you can set custom ring tons per contact. What about setting custom leds dependent on contact as well as contact type(pin/mms/sms/phone/email [specific email] address?
Would i need to purchase a combination of programs? It seems like the current programs do not offer that level of customization. But rather force all txt msg under a certain profile to display as a specific led color and maybe sound...but not be able to differentiate to the level I am seeking.
Any responses/recommendations would be appreciated.
And as minor note, I am looking forward to implementing this all on a bold so being compatible might be an issue(but assuming everything will be updated).
Love the 9000!! It's everything I wanted (minus enough ON BOARD memory)!!

AlertMatrix will allow you to specify a custom LED alert based upon a PIN/email/SMS/call. Mine flashes blue for certain people. I'm sure they have a demo available.

AlertMatrix will do almost all of what you're looking for - it has a limited selection of LED colors, though.
If you want to get that specific, you can set different rules for each contact and give each one a different sound - even for the various delivery methods (PIN/SMS/Email/Missed Call).
AlertMatrix is compatible with 4.5. BB Alerts has not been updated in months. I've never used webmessenger, but I was checking out their site yesterday - I hadn't heard of it until then.

Thanks for the responses. Apparently my notifcation features are not working great.
Would you mind telling me which colors alert matrix is limited to? DOes it work with the bold?
One thing I"m worried about I heard bbalerts is first great...but finicky and iffy on the compatibility with 4.6/(bold). Anyone care to comment?

I'm going through the same evaluation process as you. Webmessenger's website doesn't indicate it's compatable with the Bold, and it's listed as NOT being compatable on Handango's webpage. However, customer service emailed me yesterday indicating that it is compatable.
I'm trying BBAlerts now on my Bold and it works. It's pretty basic though, and doesn't appear to permit custom rules per contact; moreover, there's not much out there in the way of instruction how to use the program.
I'm a little concerned about the limited color options with Matrix; so I am hoping that we'll get a reply about that in this thread.

I've just installed the trial vers and only 4 colors are available. Is this because it's the trial version? Anyone know?
Thanks

I'm running 2008.10.14.42 - what version did you download?
If you got it from Handango, re-download OTA directly to your BlackBerry from here:

For anyone who uses Alert Matrix, can you answer some general questions?
why am I only presented with four colors (blue, red, yellow, green)?
how can I, if possible, change settings to stop the Alert Matrix alerts by simply opening the mail/text etc. Right now i have the popup box set to off. I don't want to use AM as the program to read my texts/emails. But after I open he email/text msg, and even delete it, the alert continues on and on.
Which brings up a different issue: there doesn't appear to be an option to have matrix provide repeated LED alerts, but not repeating the default BB profiles ringer/sound alert.
And last, when i set the BB profile to Quiet, the msg still alerts me audibly. How do i change that?
it may be that this progam is not for me; too advanced, though it'd be surprising if the above issues can't be addressed with in the matrix program.
thanks

cso try asking here: REXwireless.com/forums • Index page they are good about keeping it updated and you may find your question has already been asked and answered. A big plus with RW is they have excellent tech support. Send them an email and you'll probably have an answer in a couple of hours.
I'm using the latest version on a Bold and for the LED get none plus seven colors. I use AM for phone calls so I can't help you with the email text; I do remember seeing the same question posted somewhere about it.
If you have a custom alert set with AM, it won't use the BB Profiles so setting that to quiet won't help. You have to either use the BB Profiles for notification or you can use the AM profiles and use the check boxes for when the rules apply "normal hours", "weekends", etc. I guess the thinking is, if you have a profile set up for an important call/email/text you want to know when it comes in. I'd like to see the AM profiles change automatically with time/day.
Post back and let us know what you find.
Regards-Michael G.

I think you are confusing the sample alerts with "led colors". There are four sample alerts that are provided when you download the program, called "Red Alert", "Yellow Alert", etc.
Go to "Alerts Management", open one of these samples, and scroll down to the field "LED Activation".

Those are “Alert Icon” colors not the LED Activation color. Scroll down to LED Activation.

Check your settings in the preferences.

Try the Alerts Management – select a profile – “expire after” set to never expire.

Edit your “AlertMatrix Profiles” in the BB Alert Profiles.
Hope that helps.

Used AMX (AlertMatrix) for a while, but in need of being able to filter and block emails by time - so I use MessageAlerts from Webmessenger
