I have been missing Sling Player every since I quit using WM devices, so glad to finally have it on the Bold.
This is going to cause havoc on my battery life.

I'm impressed so far. Even works well using EDGE only, although WIFI is definetly better on my 8320.
So is the beta only free for 30 days? It keeps asking me if I want to register every time it loads.

Works on WiFI but can't connect on 3G (Bold) -
12-30-2008, 08:47 AM
Slingplayer works great on Wifi but I can't connect when i'm on the mobile network (3G).
- When I try to login it gives me "Unable to Connect to Sling Account Server. Please try again."
- When I manually add my Slingbox (with domain name) and try to connect it gives me: "Slingplayer cannot connect to your Slingbox. Please check the internet connect on your phone and try again".
Seems like a basic connectivity problem but I have tried everything.
- Configuring the Settings-->TCP (with all of the different ATT APNs: wap, isp.cingular etc. -- Also tried clearing these settings
- Configuring the APN setttings in Slingplayer with standard setttings isp.cingular, etc. - Also tried clearing these settings.
My other internet connected programs work fine: facebook, google maps, etc.
Any ideas?

I just experienced the same problem on my Bold. However, after getting the cannot connect error, Slingbox Mobile asked if I wanted to connect again. After selecting yes, I was taken back to the login screen. The screen had my login and password filled in already, so I simply selected ok. After that, it connected via 3G no problem. I made no changes to my Slingbox Mobile settings before trying to see if 3G worked for me. All I did is turn Wi-Fi off on my Bold.
Picture and audio quality is the same on 3G as it is on Wi-Fi. Quite an amazing app.

Oddly, I seem to have the reverse. Works on 3G but won't work on WiFi. Very strange.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried numerous other combinations with no luck -- i even deleted and re-installed. BTW, do you have Options-->Advanced-->TCP set?
Thanks,

There seems to be an issue with some routers not being able to find IP addresses on a local lan after going out to the internet for authentication. You might check your router and see if there is an "enable Loopback" option.

Ok I got it working on 3G by setting the Slingplayer Mobile APN to "blackberry.net" with no username or password.

If some can post the link to download the JAD file for a Curve, I'd appreciate. I've got an 8330, which is not "supported", but I'd like to try it out anyway - see if it will install.
Thanks,
EDIT : Yes, I have tried playing with the URL too.
http://download.slingmedia.com/playe...bold_EN_US.jad - works
http://download.slingmedia.com/playe...urve_EN_US.jad - does not work
Succesfully downloaded the US Bold version to my 8330 - it installs, but when I go to run it, gives me error "application not installed properly" and it doesn't run.
Back to looking for a Curve download link...
EDIT Again :
http://download.slingmedia.com/playe..._def_EN_US.jad - all BBs except Bold
http://download.slingmedia.com/playe...bold_EN_US.jad - Bold only
UPDATE:
The mobile app for all other BBs installs fine on the CDMA BBs, but will only run once, just long enough for you to agree to the license. After that it will just hang. When you exit / re-open the app, it will give an error:
Uncaught Exception : net.rim.device.api.system.UnsupportedOperationExce ption
Sling says it is a RIM firmware issue on the CDMA devices, no ETA on a fix.
But - there are those who have gotten the all other version to function on the 9530 (Storm) :
SPM BETA on Blackberry Storm: Sling Community
Now to bug RIM to fix the CDMA firmware...

I love sling, but have a serious issue. Once this passes beta, it will be $29.99! That is crazy. $10 is reasonable, $30 and they can keep it.

Same price SPM has always been though. I've had my license ever since SPM was released, gone through about six phones and four different OS's with the same license. Once RIM gets the CDMA firmware issue resolved I'll add a 7th phone / 5th OS.
Besides the one sling I personally own, my employer has close to 1500 deployed. No problem keeping track of them with the desktop app, but the WM version of SPM would only hold 9 slings at a time. $30 is nothing in comparison, but for a single sling user it may be a concern.

I think $30 for a lifetime lic would be worth it. I just with they did a single user lic for $10.

Thanks for posting the direct download links 0100010!
Using this link http://download.slingmedia.com/playe..._def_EN_US.jad" - all BBs except Bold, I was able to download and successfully install SPM to my unsupported 8350i - it works awesome! Of course I realize this will only be when it's connected to wifi.

I've got it running on an 8320. Works on both wifi and EDGE. Did not work at the airport Hotspot although UMA and internet worked fine. But it connected on EDGE at the airport. APN is set the same as yours.
