I've been using it on my Storm. This added feature could be nice.

Great idea,

Would be even better if you can set a specific memory size so when reached, the program will automatically restart.
Thanks for the update though.

Saves me from taking my skin off and pulling the battery. Will see how it works this week.

Default set a memory size instead? - 01-05-2009, 03:01 PM

How about having the program restart by inputting the memory size you don't want it to go under.
When the memory is reached that you specified then the program restarts.
Sorry if I double posted.

That might be a bad thing, if someone's in the middle of typing an email and it reboots, that person might be a little upset.

Downloaded this, really cool.

Does this really simulate a full blown battery pull?

But I don't think it does--exactly the same.

I was only getting "edge" on my Storm this AM, did two QuickPulls about 10 mins apart, still no "EDGE", only "edge".

I did a battery pull reboot, got "EDGE". It could only be a coincident.

However, that said, QuickPull does release memory and I see my FileFree pop back up to norm.

I tried this on my Storm but it fails:

"Uncaught exception: java.lang.illegalArgumentException"

So I then tried to set the schedule. I can scroll the hours and minutes to seelct a time to reboot. But I can't get the "OK" button act. It never highlights. The only way I can get past that point after setting the time for a reboot is to hit the escape key. Hence the schedule never gets set.

I'm really hoping I can get this to work or some other reboot program. I've got the Seidio Innocase IIand it is a pain to take off to pull the battery.

I was able to get the "OK" button to work by disabling compatibility mode. However when the sheduled time came around, still got the "Uncaught exception" :(

Wirelessly posted

I think this is an essential app for Bold users. I don't think the little plastic pieces will last very long if you were to frequently remove the back for routine battery pulls. Thanks for the great little app BTW!

I too removed it after not being able to get it to work. I then tried "SoftReset" and that program worked like it is supposed to. Albeit I don't have the scheduling option. :(

It works just a few issues,
  1. Phone cannot be locked for it to run on the schedule (Mentioned by author)
  2. Schedule does not seem to be persistent (Set schedule and in app it shows current time rather than set reboot time)
  3. *Minor* Reboot or power cycle instead of reset? I work in IT and reset generally means resetting to factory defaults.
It's symantics but can cause confusion, even though RIM also calls it reset in one place but reboot in another (can't help that).

I'm not sure if Quickpull is the issue but last night I noticed that my 8830 did not turn OFF (auto on/off) when my settings indicated. I had noticed my battery running lower sooner than I expected for a number of days now but did not suspect it was ON overnight. I did turn it of manually in the middle of the night - Weather bug is still warning about flooding up here in the pacific northWET) which is why I heard the BB - when it should have been off. It did turn back on this morning at its scheduled time automatically. But then Quickpull did not run as "scheduled" in any event.

Hmmm, does Weather Bug wake the BB in the middle of the night if there's an alert - it shouldn't since the BB should not be getting any weather updates while off. I hope to check tonight and see if the BB turns off.

Wow. Had *NO* luck with this one running 4.7.0.86 on my Storm. The navigation is all messed up. I cannot navigate through the time to schedule an automatic reboot. Plus is doesn't work in landscape mode. Not a good first impression.

Has anyone else with a Storm noticed that you can't schedule a reboot? I can set the time but I can't get to the "OK" button.

edit: disable compatibility mode made it work.

When you "schedule" a QuickPull is it suppose to dothe pull at the same time every day as scheduled? On my 8310 it does not.

This app has been updated from 1.1.2 (linked in my initial post) to 1.2. The mobihand site indicates that it is incompatible with the Bold but it installed fine and works on my Bold.

The scheduler now seems to "remember" the reboot time that you set for it instead of always defaulting to the current time (after you have set it for the first time, of course). I haven't tested the scheduler to see if it does reboot yet (I set mine for the mornings), but after a manual reboot, it remembered my scheduled time when I went to check, so all indications thus far is that it will work. Won't work while locked/holstered, of course.

Wait, why is this needed? Are there memory leaks that require this? Have I just been lucky so far with my new Curve?

In my mind, a battery pull should be a very last resort and not a scheduled event.

Most BlackBerries have memory leaks, the 8330 has more memory then most other BB's (Bold/Storm excluded) so it isn't that much of a problem.

A battery pull on a BB will solve many wierd issues, for the older device 88xx, 81xx, 83xx (exlcuding the 8330) that have only 48 MB of memory a daily reboot app will be very useful.

I just wish this program worked while the device was locked.

Since I'm new to all smart phones I was just going on word of mouth, which was saying that a BB never crashed .. or at least like a Win Mobile device. Or that it was rock solid and not flakey, unlike a Win Mobile device. So now I learn it's pretty common to do a hard reset for even a BB. Oh well, now I know.
