When I had my Pearl google maps would recognize resturants, gas stations etc. that I was close to. Why on my Curve is it different? Is this available on the Curve?

Try removing and reinstalling after doing a battery pull.

What do you mean? Are you unable to get Google Maps on your Curve or is it not working as expected? It works just fine on my 8310.

A side question for everyone...

I use the traffic feature on google maps on my curve. Just out of curiosity, I tried looking up the traffic status on my computer to see if the traffic info was in sync. Apparently, what I see on my computer browser and on my curve are different. The mobile google maps is "supposed" to have "live" traffic data... so does the normal version.

So what gives?

Also, does anyone use Blackberry Maps? It seems slow and ugly. Just wondering if it offers anything over Google's. If not, I'm going to remove it.

If I am walking and need the GPS for directions, then I use BBMaps. The map seems to me to be easier to read and use.

As for GoogleTraffic, I use it once in awhile and it seems to be kind of in-sync with XM Traffic and the real world. I have noticed that it isn't updated as quickly as XM however.

I have found that you sometimes have to menu/exit google maps and then restart it to get it to update the traffic more effectively.

Doesn't always sync with the computer though.

i use blackberry maps because for verizon users, GPS is unlocked in that program. if verizon ever unlocks GPS capability for other 3rd party apps, i'll probably make the switch to google maps. i've got both apps armed and ready on my phone, but BB maps is what i use most often

As far as I am aware on around dec 15 verizon unlocked GPS for Curves on Verizon...And the storms came unlocked for 3rd party GPS.

Had a friend who picked up a Curve (8330 iirc) begginning of dec.

About time VW!

not that i'm saying you're wrong, but it is my understanding that GPS is only functional with BB maps for verizon users. some people have reported that they are subscribed to VZ navigator, and are able to run 3rd party apps with because this paid subscription unlocks GPS on their phone. otherwise, you have to buy an external GPS that can run with your BB. i don't wait to pay for the VZ nav subscription (nor to i want to pay for/lug around an external GPS), so to my knowledge, i'm SOL until verizon lifts this stupid lock.

is your friend subscribed to VZ nav? that's the only possible thing i can think of. if i'm wrong, please point me in the direction of some threads/articles relating to this so i can finally get my GPS up and running!
