Default Task manager software? - 02-10-2009, 11:43 AM

My apologies for posting something that's already been discussed, but I've been doing a LOT of research on this (here & other forums) and still haven't been able to find the info I need.

I'm looking for a good to-do application that allows tasks & sub-tasks. I've downloaded both Mara Tick and got-2. Haven't evaluated the paid software yet, but it looks like ToDo Matrix (don't like the price point) and PocketDay Lists might have what I need. Does anyone know if either supports having sub-tasks? Thanks!

Wirelessly posted

I believe that Next Action may support subtasks. Also take a look at Viira.

Thanks for the response. I downloaded a trial version of PocketDay Lists. Gonna go with that. It has all the functionality I'm looking for, plus a price I like. (Handango even has a 20%-off sale that ends tonight!)

I have been looking for a good task app too. I downloaded (and paid for) e-mobile tasks, but am asking for a refund because it's really not that good (which someone on here warned me about, but I was stubborn and didn't listen!). The biggest problem is that a lot of the apps out there work with the calendar which I don't want! I just want a really good task management program that allows me to sort, is visually appealing, and doesn't require 20 clicks to do one stupid thing (which is my biggest complaint about e-mobile tasks, along with the incredibly small font).

Are there any programs out there that do this??

Task management is my big focus and I've narroed it to Agendus and Pocket Informant. Am currently trialling Agendus. Neither has a fully Stormed version, but both have lots of fans.

Do searches on both and you'll find lots of info.

I think I'm going to download the trial of PocketLists to see how that works. I'm using a Storm as you can tell so I wonder whether that will work for me or not ...

InjunJim, does PocketDay Lists integrate to or use the native BB tasks, which sync to Outlook Tasks? Or is is a stand-alone app?

The info I've found says it's stand-alone and doesn't sync to any desktop app. It looks like a neat app, but I need that Outlook integration.

I am getting ready to do a trial of Agendus. My big concern is the ability to integrate with the existing tasks, calendar, and contacts. Since I sync my device remotely to MobiCal (using SyncJE from Nexthaus) this integration is REALLY critical for me.

Regarding Agendus, is the license transferable? The rate with which I acquire new Blackberries seems to necessitate the investment into a transferable license.

Check out reQall....it's a free app, that works with voice....or typing entry. Has to-do list...shopping list...etc. Really smooth app. I've been using it for about 2 weeks now, and highly recommend.

reQall for BlackBerry

Checkout ToDoMatrix -- lots of different options -- probably one of the more functional tasks lists I've been allowing folders and subfolders, reminders, integrates with the message list allowing you to inject emails as tasks or calendar items, etc

point the berry at REXwireless.com/download

I think BBTask Pro is the best if you like to categorize/sort/manage a complex to-do list.

How is it functioning with 4.5?

I've looked at a lot of Task Management/PIM apps for BB and for me BBTask Pro didn't cut it as I need to sort by Category within Due Date. Other than that, nice app. Having said that, I just tried the Pocket Informant beta, which seems to be very close to general release. Very powerful, very flexible, very nice user interface for the Storm. This is the one for me.

- R.

PS - I didn't try PocketLists as it doesn't integrate to Outlook.

I have used BBTask Pro with an 8800 with 4.5 and my current bold without issues. Rooster, I have my to-do list sorted by date and then subcategory as my default view. This feature is what I like the most about the program. You can create whatever custom sorts you want and it does a great job of displaying them.

Thielsa, you're right! I'd confused BB Task Pro with eMobile Task Pro, which doesn't do that.

From the BB Task Pro web site :

"Sort your tasks up to three ways using due date, priority, status, subject, and category (First sort by, then by, then by, ascending or descending) with optional dividers."

Do you know if it has been adapted to the Storm? (am running a 9530 with .75). I couldn't find anything on their web site, and am having trouble contacting Support.

I will definitely check this out.

Thx - R.

IMHO, REXwireless ToDoMatrix (REXwireless: BlackBerry Software Applications) is absolutely the best I have ever used and I have used many on BB, Palm, and Winmobile, but it takes a good week or two to really "get it". I use mostly GTD and some FranklinCovey as my org method. Plus they have seriously good customer service. Best money I ever spent on Blackberry software.

Have heard lots of good things - ToDoMatrix definitely has fans. But I was uncomfortable with my data being stored on remote servers.

Previously mentioned reQall rocks. The person that mentioned it previously said that it is a free app, which is true right now, but they have said that they would begin charging a fee once it leaves beta.

That aside, it is a great application.

The only good thing about the native app is that I can press "t" on my phone and it pops up. Very convenient

Speaking of Task applications, does anyone know of a BB application that will allow sending of Tasks to another BB, where it can then be accepted and added to thier Task application.

For example, wife wants husband to pick up bread and milk on the way home from work. Wife makes a Task for this on her BB, sends it out to husband, husband receives Task on his BB and accepts it, it is now added to his Task list along with the due date/time and reminder.

Currently, I do this now using the BB Calendar. But since it's more of a Task than an Appointment, I would prefer to use Tasks. I am not looking for fancy time management, project management, time bars or anything of that nature, I would just like the ability for two or more BB's to send each other Tasks OTA (the receiver should still have the option to accept it or not, of course).

Anything like that out there? There is one out there by S4BB called TaskMailer which uses icals/vcals and sends out the tasks (which is close), but the receiver does not get the option to add it to thier Tasks.

I realize that most likely both BB's will have to run the same software.

You could use inForm and create your own Task app; I suspect it would take 3-4 hours to accomplish.

(Yes, I have the software but no financial self-interest.)

I just installed the reqall program. It doesn't use the BB database, so for those like me who are on BES it means we can't add tasks in our email/PIM and have the wireless sync capabilities you have with other task programs. The voice entry feature looks cool but isn't for me.

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

What I don't like about PI is the separate sync from the native BB. It should be a seamless process

akosnitzky, you can have Pocket Informant set to sync to the native DB. It's a real time sync so they always have the same data. That's the way I'm using it - I bought the release version 1.50 Thursday, which is properly Stormed. I use it with the local sync so the alarms are in the native databases and therefore trigger Blackberry Alerts notifications for me. I have 2 way sync to the native apps turned on so I could probably use both in tandem, but I haven't tried it.

There is an option to sync PI directly to Outlook, but it's not mandatory.

Day 2 and loving it!

I am glad you are pleased. Maybe my attitude about the product will change as it progresses in development

I came from Palm. The "To Do" List was FABULOUS!! I really miss it. But I do love my storm. I tried several free and trial ones. I finally broke down and bought TaskMaster. I love it. I am finally able to put them into categories (to do, Wal-Mart, wishlist, movies to see, etc) and sort them by my priority. They call it "Status" no started, in progress completed and waiting, by colors, but I use it for priority. They have a priority option that puts an ! by the item.

I am very disappointed that my Blackberry Storm didn't already come with one. The lame a** one they give you merges with memo, so everything is basically jumbled into one.
