Default Want to disable gmail application whilst abroad - 02-11-2009, 03:58 AM

Hi,

Apologies if this has alreasdy been asked by somebody else, but I couldn't find it in the forums.

am going abroad and want to temporarily disable my gmail app. Is there a way to do this without disabling data services on the phone? I still want to receive SMS messages whilst away and presume that if I disable the data services that it will disable SMS as well?

The only other alternative I can think of is to uninstall the gmail application, but that seems overkill !

Thanks

Disabling Data will not disable SMS messages.

"Options" > "Mobile Network" > "Data Services : Off When Roaming" would be the best thing to do... imho.

I exit mine from the menu and this keeps gmail from updating throughout the day. If you just hit the back button it stays running in the background but Exit Gmail from the menu seems to kill it completely.

This is the step many people forget or don't realize. Properly "Exiting" or "Closing" the app will essentially disable it. Easiest and best step unless you don't want to use your Data at all then kill your data connection as stated above.

If you opt to turn off the data connection, still make sure you close Gmail app; it will suck your battery trying to connect to the server.
