Lightbulb Request for applications - 02-12-2009, 11:00 AM

I'd like to see a couple of applications improved on my BB 8820:

1. I'd like to be able to create an unlimited number of alarms, each associated with a calendar event, with an option to set the alarm or not for each, and ideally with a choice of using a default ring or having a selection. Right now, as far as I can tell, there is only one alarm available, that is set to ring or not ring at a particular time every day (or only on weekdays). I can turn it on or off, or change the time, but it is still a one-time alarm. While I can change it, that doesn't serve me well if I have multiple events during a single day that I would like to be reminded about (waking up, an appointment or two, lunch, etc.), particularly if I know a few days or weeks in advance of the event that I am going to want to be reminded.

2. I travel and would like the time shown on the BB to reflect the local time, wherever I am. The Treo did this automatically and I don't believe there is a way to do that with the BB. When the time changes, the calendar items also change to reflect the local time. For example, if I'm in San Francisco and set an appointment for 9 AM, then I fly to New York, when I get there it should now show on my calendar as noon.

Thanks

**thread moved to Aftermarket Software section** (where you can search and find the answer to #1).

1. There are third party alarms applications. Two that I know of. MyAlarm and MultiAlarm

2. Big debate over this, and you are not the first. Personally, I am ok with it as it is, because when you change the timezone, all the calendar events adjust IF you have not set your calendar events up correctly with a time zone. There is a way to manage it correctly, so that it works better for you.

Default alarms and time - 02-13-2009, 09:29 AM

Thanks for the perspective.

We get used to what we know. It would be nice to have the option to have it change automatically, if that is the way we want it, or to manually control if we prefer that approach.

As to alarms, I checked them both out, and while they each offer better options than the BB solution, they too are quite limited (5 or 6 alarms instead of one). I'm looking for something that I can set with every calendar event I create, which could conceivably mean hundreds. It simply means that when you don't want to forget something in the future, you guarantee yourself that you will get a reminder.

but when creating a new event, the BB gives you the option of a reminder for that event. why a separate alarm?

Wirelessly posted

You sound like a good candidate for ToDoMatrix possibly or maybe IdeaMatrix. I use ToDoMatrix quite heavily and you can set a couple of alarms per event. From the calender you can inject an event into ToDoMatrix and set up to 3 alarms. Its not free, but worth every penny.

Jsanders sums up #2 quite well.

Another thought in using my method; you can actually get 4 alarms this way, 1 in the calender app itself and 3 from ToDoMatrix.

Not to be an idiot, but what is the difference between alarms (the bell rings, I assume) and alerts?

Thanks.
