I have a Curve 8350i with Nextel that I got on December 26th. I performed the latest update that was earlier this week or last week. Which looks like it has System Software version 4.6.1.128

On Friday the 13

, my phone went into some crazy mode where it said "wiping" and showed a white screen and then it said "scrubbing" with a similar white screen, both 'modes' showed a progress bar as well. These two modes took roughly an hour to finish. I took it to a Nextel store and they didn't know what it was doing. Battery pulls did nothing except prolong it as it would restart upong reinserting the battery.

Anyway, after it finished these two modes, it was as expected, wiped clean of all data. Ever since, even after several deletions/reinstalls and a battery pull, Opera Mini has acted up.

First when I have Opera Mini open and I press the Blackberry button, the scroll wheel quits working and a little tiny arrow shows up on the bottom of the screen. Depressing the BB button a second time gets rid of the little tiny arrow and the allows the scroll wheel to work again.

Each time when I first install opera and the very first time I open it and push the BB button, that menu does pop up, but when I scroll through it, it distorts and dissapears. After that, it doesn't pop up at all.

I am at a loss, as far as the wiping and scrubbing thing is concerned, the Sprint/Nextel folks both in the store and over the phone have no clue why it did that. I've talked to five of them and none of them have heard of one of these phones going into a "Scrubbing" mode before either.

Okay, doing some more Googling, I Discovered what the Scrubbing and wiping thing was. I'm still at a loss as to the BB button not working in Opera though.

Here is what I found...

Cause

Erasing all data and applications from the BlackBerry device while Content Protection is turned on triggers scrubbing, which is the process of rewriting over memory to remove any residual unmapped data on the BlackBerry device. The scrubbing process could take up to several hours.
Any of the following processes may cause your BlackBerry device to automatically erase all data and applications, and then also trigger the scrubbing process, if Content Protection is turned on:
The Kill command is sent from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to a BlackBerry device to erase its data.
The password for the BlackBerry device is entered incorrectly in excess of the maximum number of attempts set in an IT policy. Note: Ten password entry attempts are allowed in the absence of an IT policy, or when the default number of password attempts is used.
The BlackBerry device user types blackberry when manually erasing all data and applications from the BlackBerry device using Options > Security > General Options.
Note: Once scrubbing has been triggered, there is no way of stopping it. The process must be fully completed before the BlackBerry device may be used. Removing and reinserting the battery of the BlackBerry device will only start the scrubbing process again from the beginning.
The duration of the scrubbing process depends on factors such as the actual processor speed of the BlackBerry device, the amount of memory that it has, and the actual memory speed.

Additional Information
Compared to the Wipe Handheld option, scrubbing is a lengthy process and can take up to eight hours, depending on the data contained on the BlackBerry device.

I have a similar issue I'm trying to find an answer for as far as 3rd party browsers go. I did the same OS upgrade as you although I didn't have the wiping and scrubbing as you described. I have Bolt on my BB that up until the upgrade had been running fine.

Since the upgrade the BB button doesn't work in Bolt or Opera Mini which I installed as a test. I can get the BB menu in another app and then switch back to the browser and get one shot at closing it via the menu. If I miss it I have to start over with another app and try again to catch the menu in the browser. It's strange and I have to think someone else that's done the upgrade might be having the same issue. Both browsers act the same way, the BB browser runs fine. I'll continue to look into it and post back if I come up with an answer.

I have the same issue. I've tried both BOLT and OPERA Mini. I cannot get the menu to function, or anything else for that matter. Also running 8350i, with the 4.6.1.128 software.

I've read around that it's theme related and today I was reading that if you hold down the q key for two seconds in OM then the menu shows up. I haven't tried either yet, swapping themes or the q...I'd have to put OM back on my phone.
