Default ? Backing up 3rd Party Apps - What Kind of File - 02-16-2009, 10:26 PM

Running Vista with DM 4.7

I have followed the instructions to the letter in how to back up 3rd party apps.

The back-up (transfer process) goes flawlessly and when the screen pops up after it is finished I have searched and searched for the file..

I can not find a file with the PIN as the name anywhere. I am running as Admin and all files are accessible and visible.

I have searched via file name, by date - looked in all the BB files - Program files - Temp Files - Common files...everywhere.

I can not find the file anywhere. What would the file extension be?

Thanks Troy

So theoretically - if I hook up my BB and do not let it do an automatic backup then do the 3rd party backup...the ibd file with date of 02-17-9 would be that file?

I will try again tomorrow - I have made several attempts to back it up and find that dam file.

When I run the backup process (utilizing the DEVICE SWITCH wizard), it puts the information in a folder named with my BB PIN (e.g., 247A14E2) in the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

where username is the Windows user name... and the folder contains a file named the same as your BB PIN with the .alx extension (e.g., 247A14E2.alx). The other files in the folder do not have any extension, but are named after the various third party apps installed on your BlackBerry.

Thanks FJ...I will try it again & see if I can find it using your info.

I sure hated asking about such a simple process I should have been able to do with no problems :/

Jeezuz this thing was a pain to find!

In case someone actually does a search on this topic and is using Vista...I finally found it in:
C: > Users > Your Name > App Data > Local > Temp
Even though it took me forever to find it - I really appreciate ya'll guiding me in the right direction

Obviously, RIM has it tucked away... this method is actually designed for a device migration, so I suppose RIM saw no need to put it someplace obvious where we could find it.

theres an easier/faster way to backup apps.. if you do not wish to backup ALL of them.

COD LOADER is a simple chinese app that lets you pick and choose which COD files to backup. then using winloader.. you can easily make the correct .alx file to go along with it.

for further directions... check out my post found here - forum.eveek. com/320x240-games/7620-how-extract-games-apps-themes-your-blackberry.html

(im unable to post links yet.. so please delete the blank space before .com for the link to work)

Actually, when I have run DM 4.6, there are very few 3rd party COD files in the resulting PIN-folder. I get the pin.alx file but it contains very few entries and, again, the same matching VERY FEW cod files.

I know when I ran it before (work computer with DM 4.3) I got a much different result. Many more cod files.
