Default can you receive a phone call WHILE IM chatting? - 10-28-2005, 12:29 PM

I have been trying a few services (some that run in the background REALLY drain your battery...7250). Can you be actively chatting with someone and receive a phonecall on any service? I am running the MSN client...so that is the one I am concerned with.

Thanks.

I know you can receive calls while running and using AIM. If you do not have the sound off you still hear the tone when someone sends you a message. I am not sure if the person or people you are talking to are able to hear it or not. I haven't had anyone say anything. But I am always careful to disable the sound while on conferene calls and things of that nature. Hope this helps.

Cheers.

I was chatting (IM) with someone in the office and I phoned my own cell phone...right to voicemail. If I ran the application in the background, I could receive calls.

From my understanding, it is possible to have data and voice at the same time but certain applications seem to act as a switch, disabling/enabling multitasking of this option.

For Telenav, you can have GPS and still receive calls (it places the GPS on hold but that means data works in conjunction). At other times when data is being fully accessed, calls will go directly to VM which contradicts what I just posted (bummer) and hints that it may not be truly possible to do both voice and data at the same exact time.

HTH'ed. I'm on the 7520 Nextel.

On iDen no you cant and data will not "step down," with CDMA the call will go thru and shut data down, and I belve GSM will do the same.

As for the future you can on a UTMS actively send a email while on the phone, but this would require a advanced network like UMTS and HSPDA, but I do not think this is not possible on EVDO now until Rev. A is installed.
