Default desktop manager 4.2.2, Vista, outlook 2000

Desktop Manager 4.7 does not recognize Outlook 2000 so I downgraded to 4.2.2.
now when I try and set up sync it crashes!
windows gives me the following error message:

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

Do you have any other Roxio products in your machine?

To be honest due to the fact Desktop Manager 4.2.2 is the last version to support Outlook 2000 I would put my bets on the fact that Vista does not support Outlook 2000.

When you installed it did you "run as administrator" or disabled UAC.

As Akosnitzky mentioned I would either delete all Roxio programs and install the Desktop Manager WITHOUT Roxio and see fi that works..

Edit: Looked it up and 4.2.2 is supported on Vista, try the UAC thing.

Make sure delete all remnants of 4.7, including Roxio, etc. Then do a "clean" install of DM 4.2 SP2/SP3 and it should work. Turn off your anti virus app when you do the install.

Vista supports Outlook 2000 ( and even Outlook 1997). The issue in this case is DM.

I did have trouble with the 2000 install.

First I had to use compatibility mode and run as admin then create a new user...
Then I switched out of Compatibility mode and not running as admin now and all modules are working well (calendar, contacts, tasks, notes [don't use the mail])

at the end of all that Desktop 4.7 could not see Outlook so I had to downgrade to 4.2.2

now... I come here for more help! I like the pieces, I am just gonna be tenacious and get them to play well (I hope)

I am now downloading 4.2.2 W/O media manager... I will see and then report back
Thanks, Peter

That's going to be normal for Vista.. Some programs have to be tweaked like especially the older ones.

That's true as well. Ran into that at work and good old search got me in the direction.

This does sound like a DM issue, so we'll just eliminate what we can.

maybe there is something out there other than Outlook?
I was using the Palm Desktop for several years with my Treos and it was fine and played well, but the 8830 does not talk to that package (that I know of)

more ideas?

LOL, I did get a good laugh out of that.

(Got the Avator from Sho.com though)

I assume you are using the shortcut on your desktop to launch the DM, right click the shortcut and choose "Find Target" that will take us to the actual "DesktopMgr.exe" when you find that file right click that and run it in compatibility mode, Try XP first. Then se if it launches, from this point on either re-create the shortcut or start using the actual .exe file to launch the DM
