Default EasyDialer - Calling Card Dialer, Google Voice Dialer, Dial through Dialer, Callback - 03-23-2009, 10:21 PM

Hi guys,

I'd like to create this thread to introduce BlackBerry EasyDialer, and to answer any questions relating to its functions and usage experience.

EasyDialer
-- Relieve pain of dialing lengthy numbers when making a long distance call.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
You save your calling card information on your BlackBerry, and dial it with a simple menu click from Address Book, Call Log or Email.

WHO SHOULD USE IT?
People who use Blackberry to make long distance call, using calling cards, subscription based service or dial-through services.

It works with Google Voice as well!

VOICE CALLBACK
If your service provider supports callback, and your BlackBerry has unlimited incoming calls plan, EasyDialer's voice-callback calling card lets the dialing process becomes quite simple.

IS IT FREE?
A trial version is free to download for 7 days experience. Want more time? Just download it again!

For any questions, just ask in this thread and you will get answer as soon as possible.

William

EasyDialer 1.3 debuts BlackBerry App World.

EasyDialer 1.4 is available on callingcarddialer.com late today.

It's tested working well with AT&T calling card. And great UI/functions improvement.

Thanks for your support! Vish!

Works very well. i found that i no longer use berrydialer though it worked fine too, but the font for creating new cards is too small. Keep up the good work.

Hi waiho,

If you can tell your calling card settings, your device model, OS version, carrier, and steps, I'd like to help to identify the problem.

Hi William,

My calling card number is register with the website basically what i normally do is, use my mobile to dial a local number that provided by the IDD provider.
Step are, call [localnumber] and then to the destination number. No pin require. The provider call www.freecall.com

Hi waiho,

I'd like to help you to investigate the problem why EasyDialer doesn't work with your BlackBerry. Please tell your calling card details and destination number format in very details.

1. calling card setting
call type:
service number:
dial sequence before destination#:
international prefix:
dial sequence after destination#:

2. destination#
You don't have to tell the real number, but exact format, including if there is "+", "1" or "011" at the beginning of destination number.

I'll let you know my test result as soon as possible. If it's because of EasyDialer's bug, I'll fix the bug and apprieciate your help with free activation.

Your IDD provider sounds a subscription based service that EasyDialer should support well.

Regards,
William

Hi Willam,

Here is the detail:

1. There isnt any dial sequence before or after the service number.
International prefix: is 00

2. Destination# is followed by my contact list. which is +44

This is what i did without a callingcard software.

Dial [IDD number] then when connected, I just need to dial the following destination number that i want followed by 00 [countrycode] [ contact number].

Hopes it help.

Many thanks

Hi Weiho,

Based on your information, you can add a calling card as below:
Active: check
call type: direct call
service number: your IDD provider's number
dial sequence before dest#: pause( you may leave it empty. just try with and without pause)
international prefix: 00
dial sequence after dest#: empty

If it doesn't work, please let me know what error you get. Thanks.

Hi William,

This is the setting i was configure. But still not dialing the destination number.

Why dont you try the setting by putting a localnumber at the service number option and the international prefix: 00

and try to make a call using your software.

I believe is will only dial the service number. and once connected it will not dial the destination number.

Thanks

Hi weiho,

I did know the way to test EasyDialer. Actually I set my home phone number as Service Number, and 00 as prefix, and dialed my another phone number. When I picked up my home phone, I heard the dialing tones clearly. It worked well!

EasyDialer requires you to allow it access phone functions. Did you deny the permission when EasyDialer pops up for phone access?

Is there any other dialer application on your blackberry? If yes, do you know if the other dialer applicaiton filter or block phone calls?

I'm going to send you an email with more detailed test steps. please check.

William

Hi ReMo9071,

Does Google Voice support callback? If yes, could you tell the manual steps to finish a call?

I don't have Google Voice account for now. You may consider to create a new thread to ask existing Google Voice users for help.

Default EasyDialer is updated to 1.5 - 04-19-2009, 06:51 AM

EasyDialer 1.5 is available

It supports auto-dialing extension number after destination number, and generates very neat call logs.

It allows to dial very long dial sequence by dialing calling card after service phone call is connected.

It fixes a bug in international prefix matching.

ver1.4 works perfectly. However, tried to updated to 1.5.

I take it do not need to remove the existing ver1.4 and just install 1.5 which is the latest ver.

After installation, reboot require.

Rebooted, and "app error 200".

I'm not sure do i need to remove the Ver1.4 first then only run the clean install again for Ver.1.5

Havent try yet. Due to "app error 200" occur on my device when i was running the first installation without removing the previous ver.1.4 and took me about 2 hours to fix my device with JL Commander.

Tried loader.exe and removed the easydialer still appearing "app error 200" after rebooted.

Hi William,
After running few test, I finally figure out why i'm getting the "app error 200".
I reckon is Firmware ver that i use was not really stable after many software that i have installed and remove on my device.

What i done is wipe my device and start from a clean OS and installed V1.4 and upgrade to V1.5 and is all work fine.

Sorry it was my mistake.

Tested all feature and work perfect on V1.5

Good App!

Hi Waiho,

Thanks a lot for figuring out the problem! I feel so sorry that the app error 200 happened on your device.

Since 1.5 release, I've seen many downloads and activations. I believe many of them are upgrading from 1.4 to 1.5. I didn't get any error report besides yours.

I appreciate you very much for testing 1.5 as well. It identifies a small bug in call log handling.

Cheers,
William

hi rboy,

Below are comparisons between EasyDialer 1.4 and 1.5

Suppose there is a dialing card:

service#: 1234567

And suppose there is a contact "John", its number: 555-5555W111 (W means wait, 111 is extension number).

In EasyDialer 1.4, which doesn't support dialing extension# and neat call log, the result is:

1. When service number is connected, 555-5555W111 is dialed. The service provider may either consider it an invalid number, or extension 111 is dialed before destination number is connected. You may have to manually dial extension number, even have to change your contact number in address book.

2. When call is finished, a call log shows you called calling card service number 1234567.

In EasyDialer 1.5, the result is:

1. When service number is connected, 555-5555 is dialed first. When destination# is connected, a dialog pops up to ask you to continue dialing extension number.

2. When call is finished, a call log shows you called "John", rather than service number. You can re-dial the contact from call log screen.

I believe these improvements are very helpful.

William

Default Bell Canada Dial 0 - 04-28-2009, 03:35 PM

Hi William

I downloaded your EasyDialer application today from AppWorld (as your callingcardDialer.com seems to be down)

I've been able to set it up to dial the Bell Canada access 1-800 number, the language preference (1 for english), the calling card number and PIN, and finally the contact phone number.

The problem is my Rogers bill will only show the Bell Canada access 1-800 number as who I dialed, and I require it to show the number of who I was calling.

Is there any way to setup my Bold, using your EasyDialer, so that it will dial 0, the contact phone number, then wait (or pauses) until the Bell Canada computer asks for the language (1 for english) then call type (7 for calling card), and finally the calling card number and PIN? This way my Rogers bill would show the actual number dialed, and that it was calling card call.

Thanks!

Hi Kylet,

Could you try to add a calling card with below settings? I'm not very sure if it works.

Calling card type: Direct call
Uncheck "Support long dialing sequence"
service number: 0
dial sequence before destination#: empty
dial sequence after destination#: P1P7Pcalling card number and PIN.
international prefix: anything Bell requires

Default EasyDialer is updated to 2.0 - 05-07-2009, 12:02 AM

New feature since EasyDialer 2.0:

Smart Dial -- interpret any outgoing calls based on configurable rules.
Menu click to dial is not required, but kept as an option.

Smart Dial allows you to set rules for interpreting outgoing calls. Rules are checked by its order. Once a rule is matched, the rule action is taken. For "Dial" action, EasyDialer drops current call, then dials the assigned calling card; for "Don't Dial" action, current call is allowed going through.

Below are some rules:

* Don't dial if destination number starts with 1416,416, 1800,800
(Don't dial with calling card for local or toll-free numbers.)
* Dial calling card [international cheap call] for any number starts with 011
* Dial calling card [Google Voice] for any outgoing call.

Bug fixes:

- Fix bug in phone# matching that causes voice callback doesn't work in some cases.

Other good features since 1.5:
- Supports auto-dialing extension number
- Very neat call logs. log shows destination#, rather than calling card access#.
- Support dialing very long dial sequence.

This whole thread looks like a spam/self-promoting thread to get people interested in a program that copies someone else's program idea.

It might be legal in some countries (as we know Canada has been placed on the global copyright blacklist) but from the moral point of view, it is doubtful. At least in my opinion...

Sorry, for dropping my 2 cents in here.

Hi funkym, I checked out all messages you've posted regarding all kinds of dialer apps. Definitely you are a BerryDialer promoter! I don't mind you to promote anything, but please be nice to your competitors!

It's so weird that you talked about copying idea is legal or not in this thread. Smart Dial is not a feature of BerryDialer. Besides, idea copy triggers competition, and competition always benefits users!

I know somebody who tried BerryDialer, it's sold at $29.99 in Handango. And it has so many limitations in either dialing from phone pad, or dialing calling card after destination number. This let me thinking to write a new dialer...

Now EasyDialer has upgraded to 2.0, its functions are much better than BerryDialer. Before your thumb down, have you tried it?

I'm keen on improving EasyDialer rather than "thumb down" competitor's product. You please stay away from this thread.

At last, great appreciation to BlackBerry Forum which provides me the place to discuss my app. So I save a lot of work to do it on my website.

Of course, I was expecting your reply being exactly this.

Like they say in Asia man: it is better to make a good copy rather than creating a bad innovation... or so.

I am out of this thread, won't reply anymore. So no worries, no more thumbs down for you

Gave 2.0 a try on 8800 4.5.0.110. Seems a little buggy.

When direct calling the service number 555-123-4567. Sometime is dials dorrectly sometime is dials as +5551234567.

The pause doesn't seem to work in the "Dial Sequence before destination#:"

I got many positive feedback about EasyDialer 2.0. While there is bad news too.

Please note that Easy 2.0 includes all 1.5 features. You can always use "Call with EasyDialer" to place a call.

Below are problems found:

Smart Dial is found not working on some OS 4.5 Curve. The reason is found that EasyDialer phone listener is not notified by OS when an outgoing call is placed, therefore it cannot apply the rules for Smart Dial. I'm investigating any work around.

Another bug found is that callback that worked in EasyDialer 1.5 may not work in 2.0. When callback call comes in, the destination# is not dialed. The most possible reason is that the incoming call's number is different from the service number in the calling card. You may try to add or remove country code in the service# in the calling card. Once the expected incoming call number matches the received incoming call number, the destination # is dialed.

EasyDialer is updated to 2.1.

- Fixed bugs found in 2.0
- Support dialing conference call code, dynamic or static

Version 2.2 has been released. Seems to be working pretty well. Great with GV and the Smart Dialing is a great feature. William is extremely responsive to any questions or comments via email.

Be aware the update removes any calling cards you may have.
