Default MicroSky - 08-29-2004, 10:17 AM

About MicroSky

MicroSky is a freeware planetarium for mobile/cell phones with Java-support and a connection to the internet (preferable GPRS or UMTS ). It is a J2ME-Midlet client/server application which can display 2.500.000 stars, 8.000 deep sky objects, the constellations, the planets, local horizon and registered comets. With various functions and settings i.e. observer location, date, eyepiece etc. you can adjust the NightSky to your individual needs. The GPRS connection to the server enables this powerful midlet to be as small as 27 kb and run on low profiled devices.

Just tried it out, very very cool.. Although I had to replace the DNS name of the server with the IP address to get it to work..

Kinda weird, but it's a cool app!

That's hot, that'll help my nights where I go out in the scope ;). Now my question, if I go here on my BB, which do I download, the jad or jar?

edit: nevermind, found out myself via their webpage ;)

This is the link I found at the website that works for my 7280

I just downloaded the jar file OTA, then went back and registered for the free logon.

Wow! What a great find.

Okay, I'm going to resurrect this thread because I still can't get MicroSky to work.

This is the message I get when I try to connect (using BB 7130e, Verizon, BES)

Step 1:Could not connnect Welcome to www.upto.org RC=503

Any thoughts?

I have had Micro sky now for a couple months. I use it to entertain my nephews and nieces. Works really well on the 8700. And if you are having problems, you may need to set your APN. For tmo it is wap.voicestream.com. Leave the user name and password blank. For other carriers you will need to search for the TCP setting. Sorry don't know those off the top of my head.

To bad it doesn't support GPS on the BB. That would be really cool.

Anybody get this program to connect with a pearl 8100. I am getting an error trying to log on to the server. I tried putting in the ip address "81.209.165.112" as mentioned above rather than www_dot_upto_dot_org but continue to get Login error: Timeout for Host. Any ideas?

I can't change my settings because it is a Sprint phone. Any ideas?

Version 3 does work for the blackberry, here's the link:

MicroSky v3 for Blackberry

Three questions, tbdiscovery:

1. Are you using v3 for blackberry (the one linked above)?
2. Have you registered on the MicroSky site, and included your login information in the settings?
3. Do you have other java apps installed that can access the internet (like Google Maps, Opera Mini, etc.)?

peace,
sam

Yes to all three. I am using v3, all other java apps work fine, and I have registered on the site and attempt to log in via the app. I keep getting the same error as above.

I am a pearl from T-mobile. I loaded v3 and it has connection error. I tried both name and ip addr in the main setting. The upto site has this explaination but I do not know to do this on my phone?

"This is typically for using a WAP-Profile (on some devices WAP-AccessPoint) for MicroSky on your mobile phone - WAP cuts the requested Http-data for MicroSky-Chart and results so in an error. Choose the WEB-Profile on your mobile phone for your MicroSky Internet-Connection (don't forget to use GPRS) and you will get your requested MicroSky-Chart. "

Anyone knows how to do this?

Is there any concern about giving out your mobile number? How do you know they won't share that and your device e-mail address?
