Default Are applications free? - 03-26-2009, 10:36 PM

Where do you get applications? I want to put a lot of stuff on my BB like a weather app or a dictionary or some other helpful stuff. Where can they be found and are they free?

I usually never download the apps to my computer first. But from what I understand when you download an app to your computer you need to use the blackberry desktop sync software. When you open the sync software I belive you go to the applications button in the menu and you can use the software to install the app to the blackberry device. Personally I think installing the software from your phone is easier and it can be done when you aren't near your computer. To install an app directly to the phone you navigate your blackberry browser to the program and the phone will give you an install dialog. Please if I missed a step or I am incorrect please correct me if I am wrong, since I myself am new to the blackberry. Hope this helps and you can get your apps installed.

Okay I was going to do that but I heard that they will charge you for downloads at the end of the month, is that true?

if it is a .jad file, go to the page you downloaded it, on your blackberry.
it will automatically show a download page, once you click the link for an application and install it on your blackberry.

if they are.alx files, you need to download to the pc, use Desktop Manager, applications-add/remove-click browse-find the .alx file, open. then it will show in the list of apps, make sure its checked, click next and it should install.

Also when you say "they will charge you for downloads" do you mean, if you do the first step I mentioned and install?
FRom what I know, nobody charges you. you are using the data connection to download the file. if you have a blackberry data plan, it will be inclusive in your data (i.e. you wont be charged extra)

Just a Midnightdraven said. If the application is free, you are not charged for the download. But your service provider will charge you for the data. I am thinking that you probably have a data plan since you have blackberry. If you don't i would look into getting once since the blackberry uses a lot of data and when getting emails and using other features a lot of data is transferred.

I personally am on a family plan and i pay $30/Month for my data and on top of that another $20/Month for a family plan of Unlimited Messages. So check with your wireless provider before using the internet on the phone, and downloading apps.

Lasy resort - google the apps and then look for ota links. But mant forums list numerous apps. If you pay - save your key #'s and check for upgrades!! don't forget to backup your device. Read up on these issues - study!

My apps.:quicklaunch, vlingo, nobex radio companion, bblight, blinkwhilecall, captureit, facebook, logmaid, memoryup, stormlock, viigo, youmail/vymail, weatherbug, quickpull, flickr, blackberry media sync...

Damn, putting apps onto this thing is overly complicated, I have ZERO idea how to do it, plus there are so many versions of each app, different upgrades and updates and all, i said this before, I am spoiled by my Macbook

You are making something difficult that is actually very easy. Here's a free application you can download directly to your BlackBerry over the air -- Google Maps. Go to this site using your BlackBerry browser:

http://m.google.com/maps

There is a link that says "Install Now". Click that link and it will prompt you to download the app. Click Download and let it install. Follow the prompts. That's all there is to it, nothing difficult or complicated. It will create an icon on your BB so you can launch Google maps by clicking the icon.

Lt_Dan,

Yes, it is recommended to get a media card compared to storing media on the device memory.

Having said that, have you tried searching for any of the questions you've asked? There are a lot of threads discussing the very issues you're having. Searching for them will get you results faster than waiting for someone to respond.

Here's my suggestion. Before you post any more questions on the forum, PLEASE read the Help on your BlackBerry, the BlackBerry FAQ on this forum, and Stinsonddogs tips -- these have all been suggested to you previously.

Btw, how old are you?

Dan,

You've been getting a lot of great advice thus far, that's what this forum provides. Having said that, please understand that everyone here volunteers their time to help others, moderators included. These questions have been answered before. Asking them again, is wasting both your time and ours (the ones answering them repeatedly), as well as making to forums more cluttered and more difficult for others to search.

Do yourself and others a favor by seriously putting an effort into searching for your answer. If at that point, you cannot find the answer to your question, then feel free to post.

As Daphne said, look through the Help on your device, the FAQ and Stinsonddog's tips. They may not answer your current question, but there's a TON of helpful information and knowledge about your device that you could gain.

Looking through your history of posts here, most of those questions, if not all, could have been answered by reading the material suggested.

Yes, the FAQ will help you.

Initially, we were very willing to help you, but you have shown that you are not willing to help yourself, and as such, we are no longer willing to help you. If you're not willing to change that pattern, please kindly sod off.

Also, watch your mouth.

Dan,

Please watch your language on these forums. This is a family friendly site. Maybe the FAQ does not answer your BBWeather question, however it has answered questions of your in the past.

For example:

Could have been answered here : Maximum Battery Life - BlackBerryFAQ

That could have also been answered in the same FAQ, as it says
