Default Free TODAY SCREEN program for BlackBerry! (PocketPC style) - 12-28-2004, 02:34 PM

I thought it would be cool to have something similiar for the BlackBerry, so here it is. You can download this totally free program from:

Download BBToday from this thread [Link Edited]

or OTA with your BlackBerry at:

Sorry, OTA Version No Longer Available [Nonworking Link Removed]

This app will override the ribbon on startup of your BB. You can always put it in the background with ESC or exit completely using the menu. Currently it has 5 plugins showing the following info: date/time, email summary, battery/signal info, next appt today, next task due today.

The email, appt and task plugins can be selected and by clicking on the trackwheel you can jump to the appropriate apps.

This program is totally free but as always if you love it and would like to make a donation then is the place

I've physically tested only on a 7230 but any 7XXX series should be fine. The 5XXX and 6XXX series will work but the screen resolution is lower so won't look as nice. You also need V4.0 of the OS.

Enjoy, Chris Miles

Seems to work ok - needs some work though.

For example, when I highlight the line with the number of new messages, I would assume that hitting "enter" would take me to the mailbox. Enter just drops you down another line, you have to click and then go to 'select'.

I'm always afraid of apps that mess with the ribbon but I'm interested in this. I'd like a screenshot too. Can you uninstall it easily enough if you just don't like it?

Yes, you can. I was very wary, but it's nice. He's working on improvements daily.

I tried version 1.1 and I found that the appointment bar did not work correctly. I had several appointments for the day, but the today program only told me I had one.

I deleted it because it was to confusing to think I didn't have the other appointments.

I am waiting for 1.2 to try it again.

From the author:

FYI, the Calendar plugin ONLY shows the NEXT appointment you have from the current time to midnight on the current day. It does not show all appts for the day as screen real estate is at a premium (maybe a future version will have this option). Same with the Tasks plugin, it shows the next task that is DUE for today. It does not show all tasks due for today for the same reason as above (again, maybe an option for a future release).
It does take some getting used to.

Holy Smokes - sorry for the double post. The server was slow last night and when I hit submit nothing happened..... so I pressed submit again.

This is the first time I have ever had a double post. Mia Culpa, I will give the submit button a chance to work next time.

just tried it on my 7750.
seems to work pretty good!!
I think that this program could be really good with a little more work. As a matter of fact it could be better then my current BB screen.
keep at it, this will be worth money someday.

"thanks"

Ok I really like the app, just a couple things though...

Would be nice not to have to double click to get to the apps (IE, click once to bring up menu, click select to enter messages). I'd like to be able to hold it for half a second or so and have it automatically go to messages.

Also, what are the chances of getting plugins available? Such as say a webmessenger or verichat plugin.

And since I don't have any BW devices available, what's it look like on a 62xx?

I would re-install the app. I've gotten that a time or two in the past and a reinstall helped.

Indeed! I find the new messages line updates a bit too slowly. The appt summary is very useful tho.

Default 7100t - 01-10-2005, 04:51 PM

Just tried it on my 7100t... installing it wiped out the extra themes and reset my unit to default.. A little concerning, but all my data was still there.

Reinstalled the other themes (Default is the best except for the fuzzy top of the background pictures) and it's working.

But... The weather function says:
Quote:
Error: could not open tunnel- failed

It also shows no appointments for today, even though there are 4.. They are all in the past? hmmmm? I'll check tomorrow to see if it only picks up future appts.

Default Works on 7100t - 01-10-2005, 07:36 PM

Works on my 7100t with T-Mobile 3.8 OS. No problem with my themes. The weather plug-in gives an error: "Error: could not open tunnel - failed" If I select the weather, it goes to AccuWeather.com and displays the correct weather report in the browser.

Default hmm - 01-11-2005, 08:10 AM

Today it shows the correct number of meetings. I guess it only shows future mtg, not past. even if the past mtgs were earlier today.

would be cool if the weather worked. (I did go into weather options and check non BES)??

Sorry theres no tasks or emails. I checked all my emails and I don't use my task manager. Ya know what... I don't even use it for emails. The only thing I use as far as emails are my voicemail alerts and I also have Northern, NJ Fire/Police pages going to my blackberry. I don't use my regular email with it, yet... too much spam. And until they come up with a solution so that there is either a delay in sending only whats in my inbox to my BB from the Blackberry Manager program... or they allow us to put a delay on sending our BES emails to the BB so our outlook spam filters catch our email first... i don't plan to use it for my email.[/img]
