Default Any app to turn WiFi on and off? - 05-06-2009, 02:43 AM

Hi

I would like to automatically turn Wifi on and off at certain times of the day on the 8900.

In particular, to accomodate the new Primetime2go app, which downloads videos only when you're connected to WiFi, so, I'd like it to turn on in the middle of the night, so the app can download videos, then turn off by morning.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeff

Moved thread to Aftermarket Software. Hopefully it receives more views this way.

Personally I would love to see an app that could do this. If it could do the same for Bluetooth, that would be an app I would pay for.

Interesting. I'm a bit busy right now. I'll try to write one when I have some free time.

There are two existing applications that I know of.

One is Location Profiler and Profiler by Toysoft. The former turns on and off Wifi and/or Bluetooth based on cell tower location, and the latter turns on and off Wifi and/or Bluetooth based on time schedules.

The second is BilbyConnections by BilbySoftware. Wifi and Mobile Network off and on based on either one-offs or day of week and time of day. However, this application currently does not auto-start (promised for the future).

Toysoft Development Inc.- Location profile for Blackberry

Toysoft Development Inc.- Automate profile switching for the blackberry

Bilby Software

Awesome! Thanks!

However, using Profiler, I don't see where I can have Wifi on or off (or Bluetooth for that matter)?

Thanks,

Jeff

Woops, perhaps that was in a beta version only, that ended up not being released. You can probably email the developer (address is on his site) and ask for the link to version 1.5.15.

QuickLaunch just... um, launches apps, doesn't it? While you can add Manage Connections to the QL menu, it's hard to do that while sleeping. ;)

I guess that would make you a "Ciao hound "

Thanks for the feedback - I guess I have to wait or find that beta ...

Actually, I will recommend that Primetime2go incorporate that into their next app version, since Wifi is an integral prerequisite for downloading, and, it is counterproductive to the Blackberry battery life to leave WIfi on, and, many subscribers of this service would only need Wifi for this ...

Thanks,

Jeff
