Default smtp wifi client?? - 06-29-2009, 09:15 AM

Hi,
is there a app that supports smtp wifi client only? i was given a blackberry curve 8900 and i dont not need a data plan. i would like to check my gmail smtp emails on my blackberry on the wifi though. thanks in advance.

I think, and others can correct me if I'm mistaken, your only choice is to use your device browser and work with your gmail mail "online". No way to retrieve or send mail without a Blackberry data plan (not just a generic data plan which would get your no farther except beyond wifi only).

It is my understanding that the GMail application for the BB will work without a data plan.


Treat your password like your toothbrush. Don't let anybody else use it, and get a new one every six months.

OP will have a rather difficult time using the device browser without a data plan... perhaps a 3rd party browser, or the GMail application.

Well... according to this seasoned professional, it does indeed work without a data plan. I haven't verified that as I do have a plan.

If you want your email through the native email client, then you do need a BlackBerry data plan. Everything else is an ugly hack and hit-or-miss.
