Default RIM AIM app on AT&T? - 07-05-2009, 05:28 PM

Is there anyway to trick my phone / service into letting me use RIM's AIM app on an AT&T phone? I'm getting an alert saying "service not enabled for this hand held"; I know AT&T doesn't push the service book for this app because they want you to use their media net app (uses text messages). I have an unlimited texting plan, but way more than 30 contacts. How can I get this to work? Can anyone from T-Mobile give me their service book for the app?

What are my options? Thanks.

Your option is to buy a BlackBerry data plan. I don't think there are many IM programs left that use SMS instead of data.

I think you may have misread what I'm asking. I have a BIS account, but AT&T doesn't provide the service books for AIM, because they want their customers to use their SMS app. I need to find a way to get AIM to work; their SMS app is not an option for me.

I have at&t and use RIM's AIM app. You may need to upgrade your OS and resend service books. I'm just saying.

I'm running 4.5 on an 8800 and have resent service books (both by host routing table, and BIS website).

Are you trying to download aim via mobile.blackberry.com or are you trying via USB through your PC?
