Default BBWeather Issues? - 07-07-2009, 09:41 AM

I have been using the latest BBWeather 0.84 Alpha (2009-02-28 16:01:48 PST) on my 8830 for months. This morning, I started seeing the following error:
Error - Current Conditions Thread:
Missing XOAP 'link' parameter in request.
Has anyone else seen this? Is it possible that there are provider issues?

Yes - others (including me) are having this problem today.
It is not provider related.
I would bet that Weather.com changed the format of their XOAP feed (they've done it before) resulting in this error.

I have the same issue and am using the same version. I would expect that weather.com has either a problem with their feed or have changed it. Hopefully Tateau who fixed it before will be able to fix it again.

Thanks for the confirmation. BTW, by "provider", I was referring to the weather data provider (e.g., weather.com or the like), not cellular carrier.

Hopefully it's as simple as a Weather.com issue that will be fixed. However, I tried going to the author's Web site (www.tateu.net) and it appears to be offline now.

seriously tho, hope someone has the time to fix this. best free app ever

Two months ago, I saw a provocative movie on cable TV. It was called The Net, with that girl from the bus.

Yes, how very annoying that the free app which works great (when the supplier doesn't change the feed) no longer works. How annoying for the free app.

Default BB Weather / Error - 07-07-2009, 01:25 PM

Good afternoon. Yesterday I was here because after installation I couldn't get the app to work. JSanders helped me and in no time it was up and working. Worked fine all day until I shut the phone off. Today it's not working. The desktop icon shows a sun with N/A inside it. When I click on the icon, this is the message I get when it tries to retrieve the weather:

Error-Current Conditions
Thread:
Missing XOAP 'link' parameter in request

I did install BB Extralight and BB FreeTips after I got it working yesterday but it was working afterwards.

Also can locking the bb stop the transmition of data, because I keep it locked.
Please Help!

Four threads open on this one problem. What's the over/under?

The feed from xoap.weather.com must have changed. It is a data provider problem.

Ok! now I'm lost. What does the below mean and what do I need to do if anything?

The feed from xoap.weather.com must have changed. It is a data provider problem.

You need to wait for someone to fix the BBWeather program to use the new data feed. There is nothing for you to do.

Per his forums, Tateu said if he has time he is gonna look at the problem later this evenings. Let's all remember that he doing this out of the kindness of his heart (I.E. Free) so there is a measure of patience in order.

That wasn't directed directly at you (Directed Directly, that just sounds funny) Why do you think I hunted him down on his website. It's a wonderful app, that I am sorely missing right now. It was more for the "I use this app cause its free, but now its broken so he better effin fix it right now" crowd. They're the same people who use free themes and expect the creator to make like 15 customizations to suite their needs. Selfish Selfish people

I certainly have gained more respect for this little app. It reminds me of how little I respect my hot water heater until it goes out.

The 'author' has placed the code in the public domain and no longer supports it. Fortunately, the last time there was an issue, Tateu came riding in on his white horse and saved the day. Tateu did the fix out of kindness and a desire to help the community, but isn't responsible for fixing it every time it breaks. He may well be able to resolve the issue again (no doubt he's capable, so long as he is available). I have it on good authority that he knows of the problem and will most likely take a look.

Free software is often unsupported, especially after a period of time... developers move on other projects - sometimes paid projects. Sometimes you get what you pay for. BBWeather is a great little free program that many of us use and love, but let's face it, gang, it's an orphan.

I'd be willing to pay some money ($5 seems reasonable) to be able to maintain this app and keep it up to snuff. Clearly there are quite a few of us who use it and like it. Perhaps $ will lure a programmer to maintain it.

Ok, it seems to be fixed for OS 4.3 and above...except...weather.com now only provides a maximum of 5 days of forecast, instead of 10. I should hopefully have an OS 4.2 version ready in a day or two.

OTA (autodetect)

The OTA link should hopefully detect if you are running a Storm or not. If it does not, you can force it with:

OTA (Storm)
http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=BBWeather&os=4.7

OTA (not a Storm)
