Default Facebook contacts sync - what actually happens? - 07-09-2009, 11:25 AM

Hi.

Does anyone know what happens when the BlackBerry contacts get sent to Facebook with the FB app? I know it says it looks for people who are in your BB who you aren't connected with on FB, but what does it do when it finds someone? Will they notify you? If so, how? I'm assuming (hoping!) they don't automatically send a friend request or notify the other person.

I have a lot of contacts on my BB who I don't want to connect with on FB.

Thanks

J

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

It will match anyone by name in your address book with your FRIENDS ONLY.

Then it will pull info. It won't request friends for you.

And if you don't want to link them, you can go into the fb app and unlink

Wirelessly posted (8300)

During my last upgrade I lost a lot of my facebook calendar entries(birthday). I have tried upgrading but so far they will not return (even upgraded to the new patch version that came out this weekend. Has anyone else had that issue? Or a work around?

Love the 9000!! It's everything I wanted (minus enough ON BOARD memory)!!

Incase anyone is curious, this is what happened after I synced the contacts:

1. I got a notification of the people that the FB app linked with my address book.

2. I got a notification thru the FB app:
Quote:
You have successfully connected your Facebook(r) for BlackBery(r) smartphones Application with Facebook. Follow the link below to find friends
3. On Facebook, I got the following notice above my feed:
Quote:
You have successfully connected your Facebook® for BlackBerry® smartphones Application with Facebook, and can now find friends.
When I clicked on "find friends", it gave me this message:
Quote:
You have successfully connected your Facebook® for BlackBerry® smartphones Application with Facebook, and can now find friends.
We will never contact anyone without your permission. You may opt out of this service at any time by first opening the Facebook® for BlackBerry® smartphones Application on your phone and then navigating to the Options menu.
It found a handful of people, some of whom weren't correct matches for my address book listings (some didn't even have names I recognized). What I didn't like was the listings weren't linked, so I couldn't check the profile before I added them. There is also an option to invite people that FB couldn't match.

Seems like the new 1.6 will not allow me to click on the connect to either the Calendar or Contacts anymore. It is grayed out. Anyone know why this is?

If you're on a BES (eg your BB is through work), it's probably because they blocked the option. Otherwise, I'm not sure

I am on the BES but it was working before 1.6. I wonder what setting it is.. I'll have to research.

Ever since I allowed my facebook to connect to my blackberry contacts, I have been unable to use pocketmac sync for my address book. Even when I de-activated it, I still can't get my contacts to sync to my address book. Everything else still syncs fine.

Anyone else have this problem?
