Default Best DateBk type PIM on BB? - 09-04-2009, 06:37 PM

I just purchesed a BB Tour yesterday and got it all activated and synched with MS Outlook. I'm a long time Palm user so I immediately began looking for something like DateBk since I've used it forever it seems. So the question, sepecially to the host of ex-Palm users who's posts I've read, which apps have you settled on? And why?

The best contenders seem to be Pocket Informant and Agendus. Right now PI doesn't allow synch with multiple computers so that's a deal breaker for me. Though I understand that their next version will have that feature. Agendus, which I've downloaded the trail, seems to be a good candidate but it seems a little slow and limited in some of the critial funtionalities (due dates and categories, for instance). I looked at this app when I had my Treo but DateBk had/has some amazing features with absolutely no issues, at least for me. What other apps should I consider now that I'm a "crackberry newbie?

I know this question has been asked before and I've read many of them but the threads are all over the place. A response to this question will help focus my attention. Thanks to all who respond.

James

Like you, I'm a former Treo user (4 years) and I pine for DateBk5. What I loved more than anything was the week-at-a-glance view like the old fashioned paper date books. It was ideal for my level of scheduling and gave me a great feel for how my week was shaping up. Pocket Informant has it, but the days go side-to-side (Monday on the upper left, Tuesday on the upper right). PI says it's going to be configurable in a future release, but so far it's MIA. They also say, "but...but....but....our way is how EVERYbody does it." Yeah, right.

What I want for a layout is:

Monday.............Thursday

Tuesday............Friday

Wednesday........Sat/Sun

I wish Pimlico would put out a BlackBerry verison of DateBk. I'd pay $40 for it at the drop of a hat!

PocketInformant is about the only other thing out that I am aware of. Agendus might have something as well, but I think that might only be for the Storm (95xx). PocketDay is also something you might want to take a look at, but it isn't a PIM.

Exactly what d you not like about the BB calendar?

It's not that I don't like the BB calendar it's that I've been spoiled by DateBk 6 and all it's capabilities. Like rambo47 I go way back with Palm. I'd pay $40 too for DateBk in a BB format. From what I've read so far it looks like PI v2 will be about as close as it gets on BB whenever they get around to releaseing it. I have a trial version of Agendus but I'm finding it sluggish and limited.

At this point I'm committed to BB for a while so I guess I'll have to live with what I have. If anyone finds an application that's better than PI or Agendus, please post it. I'd appreciate it!

Also a former Treo/Datebk user. I have found nothing that comes even close to DateBook 5. I am currently forced to use Outlook but I really miss the functionality and flexiability of Datebook.
CESD has indicated that he is looking at other platforms. I really wish the Blackberry was first on his list. The Pre totally disappointd me. Palm blew it. The PIM was what made and established it as a leader in the PDA market, not the gimmicks of cards on the Pre. I would gladly pay $40 for Datebook for the Blackberry.

I'd give anything to have DateBK on my BB Storm. It was probably THAT application which kept me with Palm for all these years (2002). Agendus? nything else? doesn't come close. I am using the appointment app already on the Storm and, believe me, it is nothing like DateBk 6!

Why don't we get someone to call Pimlico and let them know about this? I called Freedom2 keyboard when I upgraded to the Storm 5.0.0.328 OS and the board stopped connecting. They went out and downloaded the new software and had a new set of drivers ready within a week and now it works like a dream again! What a great customer service dept they have...maybe Pimlico is the same, they're just clueless about us BB owners.

$40 for the DateBK application? I'd probably pay twice that. If you've used that app, you understand.

I have emailed them and the response I got was, "We're considering it. Check back for updates." That was a year ago.

I also used Epocware's Handy Calendar on all my Nokia phones, but alas, they're S60-only.
