Arrow New App: Threaded SMS for BlackBerry - 10-22-2009, 06:44 AM

Dear All,
We are making a true Threaded SMS app for BlackBerry. No reason why only iPhone users should have all the fun!

Modeled on the lines of iPhone sms app, this app will groups sms per your Contacts and shows you threaded sms in chat style. You can reply from the same 'conversation view screen' screen. Since pictures are worth a thousand words, attached are some screenshot

I am inviting beta testers for this app. Once beta is over, we will be releasing it to all. As is customary with Empower apps, you not only participate in making of a great piece of software for all blackberry users, but you also get free licenses and opportunity to beta test our other upcoming apps.

In case you are interested in running a pre-release app, please reply below with your Device model and OS Version below. We will start with 20 users and take up more as we progress through the beta..

Thanks,
Ani.

Looks good.

I had threaded SMS with 5.0 but it was too buggy on my 8330 so I rolled back to 4.5. Threaded SMS is the thing I miss most about 5.0. I an currently running 4.5.0.175 on my 8330.

Im willing to test.

OT: I remember back when I use to beta test Empower HTML Email Viewer for you guys (back when I was on Pinstacks). I had to delete it as it was incompatible with the 4.5 HTML email viewer. BTW can you PM me if you got that issue fixed, I would like to go back to Empower HTML Viewer.

Seemed odd to me to want beta software for a beta OS when you already have the functionality it's offering.

I'm totally down with threaded SMS.

Curve 8330 4.5 on Sprint

The Palm Pre has a pretty nice threaded messaging feature...to bad the phone sucked and I dumped it after 3 miserable weeks ;)

Arrow Please check your PM - 10-23-2009, 05:46 AM

Hi All,
Thank you for your response.. Infact, people on OS 5.0 have also volunteered I have tried to keep one person per device / os combo.. I have sent PM to the chosen members.. Please check your PM on how to proceed..

For everyone else, I promise, as soon as the private beta team have given their feedback, and if everything is fine (no major bugs or issues) I will be opening it for public beta to all !

Thanks again to everyone..
Ani.

Hey Ani - I've downloaded the 3 pieces you asked me to download and thus far have noticed 2 things:

1. The person I'm sending to (my son0 does not ever receive my SMS
2. When I am in the ThreadedSMS app and compose an SMS and click SEND, nothing happens. No notification that the SMS is sent - the screen never changes. It appears like my click does nothing. However, when I back out and then go back into ThreadedSMS, it shows the person in the Text Messages list and the sms I tried to send shows in the 'bubble'.

Make sense?

juwaack,

I had the same issue, a battery pull seems to resolve that for me.

I have another issue though. I send a message, i get a reply, I send a second message and get a reply, it doesn't show in the proper order

Should look like

Sent message 1
Reply 1
Sent message 2
Reply 2

Instead it looks like this:

Reply 1
Reply 2
Sent message 1
Sent message 2

I have to scroll up to see the reply. It does this every time I get a reply. If it is a long conversation, I will have to scroll for a while just to see the reply.

I know you don't have access to the SMS API to mark them as read, but it is a little of a pain to mark all SMS as read when you've already read them in the Threaded SMS app.

Thanks jsconyers, a battery pull helped. Went back and forth a bit with my son and we both saw:

Sent 1
Reply 1

Reply 2

I also have Email and SMS 'combined' in my Messages app, so I'm getting the messages showing in both places. I assume if I changed the to 'Separate' I can then hide the SMS icon. I'll test that and report back.

Would be nice to have this app integrate with the Messages app. Yes, I realize OS 5.0 has native threaded SMS, but not all devices will be getting OS 5.0 so this could be helpful for those devices that will be left out.

One other thing, on my son's 8330, he is seeing a date of '31 Dec 69' in our sms conversation. I've verified the date is set correctly on his device and attached a pic.
